http://www.bit-tech.net/news/2008/09...r-hero-movie/1

Brett Ratner has been pressuring Activision to let him make a Guitar Hero movie it seems, but Activision is saying no.

Nope there's no reason to make a movie about it because it just wouldn't make sense. You'd just end up with yet another "small band makes good" story, it wouldn't bring anything new to the genre.

Just another example of Hollywood seeing a bandwagon and just jumping on it without any thought

There's no reason to make a movie about this because it's one of the worst movie ideas we've ever heard of. It would only go to embarass Activision, hence why I'm guessing they said no.

dumb idea however more Guitar hero i don't mind as long as it's not just dross. Lets have some classic Rock bands. I for one would buy Guitar Hero: Dire Straits to try and play Brothers in Arms and Telegraph Road.. I'd even buy the fake steel guitar for it..

Guitar Hero: McFly however can f*ck right off.

*lets the insults commence*

Or they could be good and release the songs as DLC. I don't really like what Activision are doing with the GH franchise. First they release a shoddy GH3. Ok, it wasn't that bad, but battle mode was awful and they made loads of changes that didn't need to be made. Now they're trying to cash in with thousands of Guitar Hero <Band> games.

Not to mention a boxed game or different SKU will get discounted. DLC takes AGES to do that.

I'm fine with them making more Guitar Hero games.. but I think we can all agree that a Guitar Hero Movie...would be amazingly bad... especially if Uwe Boll somehow gets his mits into it :P

Maybe it'd come with a plastic camera and some coloured buttons. The only way to watch the movie is if you can be a good enough camera man to press the right buttons in order?

The only way I could imagine this would work is if Brett were willing to break his mold of so-so action films and do something different. He could easily take the direction that Julie Taymore did with "Across The Universe" (I'm not saying it was a well-executed film, I'm saying it was a good idea) and just make a musical with a reasonable enough plot. He could be a little more experimental and make something really off-the-wall like "Six String Samurai" since I don't see the base elements of Guitar Hero really making for a very good plot overall. (Gain fans, save the world?) There are good-enough ways to make a film here...

...The only thing holding back the whole thing is, well, it's Brett Ratner. Unless he's hiding his creativity behind these formulaic crap-fests he calls films, he's not the man to get the job done.

Never played the game, never will, but your comment sums it up.
