[09/08] Late

Late

Here we go without power lines (submitted for potm):

Large
Full size
10mm, ISO1600, f/3.5, 1/20s, Powerlines removed in PS but otherwise no PP adjustments.

---------------------------
Late (original unedited)

Click for larger
Original size
10mm, ISO1600, f/3.5, 1/20s, no PP.
---------------------------
And yes I should have used a tripod and shot at ISO100.
It's my first ever UWA shot that I've really liked.

Dunno if it's blue enough to trigger the theme. I hope so. C&C welcome.

Damn the powerlines. It's a nice image, but I've got to say the distortion and powerlines kill it for me a bit.

Thanks Vers. I was unsure about those powerlines...

Does anyone know if it's within POTM regulations to clone them away in PS?

The distortion I kinda like. Usually it disturbs me but I think it works well with creating depth (or suction ) in the foreground.

The distortion of the fenceline and open structures is fine...its the building on the left that distracts me a bit. As for the powerlines, yes they can be cloned out--then again if you like them or find that others do then they might be better left alone.

He he yeah I hate that building on the left but that is actually more to the fact that they drained some sewer stuff out on the sidewalk for six months.
I don't really care for the powerlines as I don't think they add to the composition in either a positive or negative way but I let them stay there for the purity of Camera->sRGB->upload without any PP.
I'll try cloning out the lines later and see if it does any good.

This sunset was killer. We were on our way home from a weekend away and at the stop before this one it was breath-taking. Unfortunately the missus had no intention of getting of the train early and waiting for the next. lol
If I have the time tonight I might give it a go but it's rather uncertain.

Nothing against pp with this topic. Get rid of the power lines for sure

Nice shot.

I tend to love pictures that have some sort of symmetry to them. I also love sunsets, so this one is spot on

I really like the shot, OleJ. And the cloning out really helped - it looks much nicer without the powerlines. I have a few shots of my own I need to do that with...

I'm glad to hear you like it Smilodon Two flies with one swat sure is nice And I think the symmetry is what makes me care for the shot as well.

I highly recommend the spot healing brush in PS If you want to remove something from a non-uniform surface then it really rocks. Don't use it on detail stuff though

Thanks for all the positive responses!

I find the clone tool a bit more useful than the spot healing tool. The spot healer tend to make a smudge out of everything if you aren't careful.
Using the clone tool and sampling from lots of different laces is usually the best, as you have more control.

It quite depends on what you are working on and yes in some cases you are quite right. I cleaned away the power lines almost by just drawing a single line across the picture right on top of the power lines and "boom" the power lines were gone and the sky still looked immaculate What I like about the healing brush (there are two and I can never remember the diff) is that texture is changed but contrasts/colors/shadows are kept. It works wonders on removing zits on faces
The clone tool is indeed very good but it's not always you have something to source the clone from. And you need a lot to be able to give it variety enough I think...

Yeah, you are right. It depends, as always, on what you are doing, and what you want it to look like.
