So you need a quadro for the photoshop acceleration as well?
Or does that work on a GTX280? It's not very clear from the article... |

Only the RapiHD plugin requires a Quadro.

it uses nVidia CUDA, so the Geforce 200series is good. I don't know about the 8000 and 9000 series thus.

Adding support for AMD's Stream processing shouldn't be very hard. Both CUDA and Stream are used for accelerating the same C code. Thankfully DX11 will end this divide once it is released.

about time I say. I always figured graphics cards would do a much better job of rendering static images than the cpu in photoshop (can't speak to video editing, don't know anything about it).
now it won't be the worlds slowest slideshow when editing high res photos and applying filters. |

Yep, for all intents and purposes the code should be reasonably portable between CUDA to Stream, but I believe there will be some minor code changes required in order to move it across seamlessly. As you say, the DX11 Compute Shader will solve all of this political garbage because apps will be seamlessly portable at that point as long as the GPU supports D3D11.

£995.99 Adobe Photoshop Extended CS4 (PC) £207.99 Adobe Photoshop CS4 - Upgrade Edition (PC) The question is, what's the difference between the two boxes? Is one the full suite (Acrobat, Illustrator et al) and the other a PS standalone, or do Adobe really expect home users to pay £995 else suffer Photoshop elements? |

@Silver51 - One is an upgrade package for people who already own PS, you can pay a smaller fee to upgrade to the new edition.
