[10/08] River of Light
This is probably my fastest response to any POTM.
![]() Picture was taken last night so it was technically still September, but the theme was announced, so I figured it had to be OK (It was taken with the POTM in mind). Two problems taking this picture: 1: It was COLD! 2: Cars were going too slow. After a while I realized why... I was standing in the middle of a bridge over a road where everybody normally drive too fast. And I was wearing a bright yellow reflective vest. (Quite similar to the ones the police wear when they have speed controls) ![]() Picture taken with EOS 30D w/ 70-200 F/4L tripod and a wired remote. Slightly rotated and cropped in PS. I also had to tone down some reflections along the road, but nothing extensive. C&C welcome

I like it. It doesn't move me artistically, but its a well done photo. The frame is divided nicely.
There are two things that bug me though, the "sparks" in the middle of the photo trailing around the red streaks and the headlights that twinkle at the top third. Maybe you couldn't avoid the headlights at the top third because it was a light source pointed directly at the camera, but you could have retaken the shot to not get the sparks. Overall, its a crisp photo. Good job. I have a feeling this month will be filled with this kind of stuff, not that its a bad thing.

One of the best ones I've seen IMO, was of a Porsche going through a canyon pass. Its headlights would dodge in and out of cliffs and light it up so you can see the mountain as it is painted by light. Then the picture is stopped right before the porsche leaves the frame and you can see just a little bit of it.

Thanks for the comments
![]() I know that the take on the theme is kind of boring and obvious, but I figured I just had to try it. Hopefully I'll come up with something else as well.ssR: Having several peoples different versons of basically the same thing could be pretty cool. There is LOTS of ways of doing exactly this. akpoly: To avoid those two problems I have to face the other way on the bridge. Unfortunatley that direction isn't really interesting. Here is one of the pictures from it, though: ![]() This was my favorite for a while, but it got a bit to symmetrical and busy. This one is better in composition, but still confusing and a bit boring...?

i still like #1 the most. #2 seems to be fitting too tight in the frame, maybe a wider angle would help...#3 just doesnt work for me composition wise
what i liked in #1 was the diagonal direction of the road and you lost that in your other attempts

Yeah. That's why they got "rejected".
The last two were actually taken before the first one I posted. I just put them up here to explain what I was talking about.

Same here, a lot.
Really like how you've 'framed' it.

+2
It may be symmetrical but the off-ramps make it interesting

I like the second one better too...symmetry rules!
The first one is great too though....I don't quite like the last one...not sure why.

I prefer the second one too, as I like the broken symmetry of the on and off ramps

As I said earlier, more of the same isn't necessarily a bad thing.
