I played the beta and was so sad it only lasted for a week or so. I was hoping it'd last until release tbh, but there we go.

Promo copies of the game (the 'unholier than thou' edition, presumably) are going for a song on ebay (see what I did there?)

i think one of the main reasons is that Sony's Arab market is HUGE. You don't really want to piss off your biggest customers; you see this in any business. From the customers at a barber shop who come in twice as often, tip twice as much and always seem to have a barber free for them, to the billionaires who order five times as many lamborghinis as the rest.

Yeah, me too. If the Xiites in the middle east say it's fine, than there's just 1000 other muslin factions to be afraid of... Easier to do the recall, afte all we don't want a plane to be thrown in the sony main office....

Kotaku have a quote from the guy who wrote the song saying that there's nothing wrong with using the words of their Prophet in this way as it's praise.

There's more of those than you'd think. Unfortunately - and, to be fair, this probably goes for any general group of people - the ignorant ones are always the loudest.

He definitely does make the most logical point, though. I rather wish the Islamic community as a whole would listen to advice like his more often. It could have used someone like him when the Danish editorial cartoons opened such a ridiculous can of worms a few years back. It's incidents like that one that leave content providers of all kinds on edge about offending the sensibilities of certain groups.

...it *was* Danish, right? ack. I hate having to second-guess myself.

The Muslims who are angry about this are very few and far between, and totally loony. Even in the strictest interpretations of Sharia, the only music that is allowed is singing the words of the Koran. Sony is worried about angry, racist 'murricans, not Muslims. (even though the passages aren't in English)

^^ And a box of homemade cookies to [USRF]Obiwan for pointing out what you'd *really* think would be extraordinarily obvious to people like those at Sony. Thank you.

'Sony is worried about angry, racist 'murricans, not Muslims'

That's possibly the real worry indeed.

Preemptive selfcensorship is no solution...

What's next? I cover up my wife because someone may be offended by her blond hair?

Sheesh...

Respect for the culture of a country WHEN IN THAT COUNTRY is due....but not preemptively HERE.

*Last year we planned a flight with a stop-over in teheran (never leaving the international part of the airport, never entering the country). All female passengers were required to wear a scarf over their heads when leaving the plane...
Okay, we would have been in a country where this is custom, so...no complaint there.
Flight got cancelled though*
