Apple to kill off Mac Mini?
http://www.bit-tech.net/news/2008/10...off-mac-mini/1
Rumours abound that Apple is due to announce the end-of-life for its dinky Mac Mini product line, with no new units being made available.

I thought that was old news, they've been filtering them out of the shops for a while.

They still need a headless mac that isn't the overpriced pro.

tbh short of getting a underpowered mini-itx based rig there is little else to match its footprint or overall size.

Which is 165x165x50. Smaller than an epia.

I hope they're planning on releasing something new to replace it, because I've always liked the Mini. In fact, I'd already decided it was my mom's and grandpa's next computers, and I was toying with the idea of getting one as a media center. It'll be a few months, though, before any of those things happen. It should be interesting to see what's available then.

![]() We have these pieces of **** at work and never in my life have I worked anything as poor as these (mine lasted about 5min and is now sitting on a shelf turned off). These things are so slow you would expect to find a steam engine were you to open them up. Most people around here have at least 1-2 crashes a week if not more.. especially if they are using powerpoint or photoshop.

Compared to what? Compared to a full desktop yeah there sub par but they piss on a epia. Size to performance there is little (any thing?) to match them

The Mac mini was a pretty dinky piece of kit...
Though at least that Dell runs a normal OS... ![]() Personally, I'd rather pick up some plexi, the new Jetway board and a couple of laptop drives... or build on of these: Or a NES PC....

Ive been looking at getting a mini but am holding off in anticipation of them releasing something new soon(tm). Not seen that dell before it looks sweet, how do the processor speeds compare?
Yea you cant call the mac mini exactly fast, its growing quite old now. Theres some pics about of a mini mac tower which would be nice, only if they keep the price point at £400 thou |

I think apple are shooting themselfs in the foot, as the entry level mac is now £719 which is a lot just to "Think Different"
I think apple could end up pricing them selfs out of the market as more people look to buy small cheap systems.
