AMD introduces ATI Radeon HD 4830 graphics card

http://www.bit-tech.net/news/2008/10...raphics-card/1

AMD has introduced the ATI Radeon HD 4830, and bills it as a product that raises the performance bar for sub-£100 graphics cards.

The Radeon HD 4830 we'd received from AMD had seven of its ten SIMD cores disabled, meaning only 560 stream processors (112 shader units) were actually enabled.
Do you mean only seven were enabled i.e. 3 were disabled, as opposed to 8 being enabled and 2 disabled as should be the case, giving the proper SP cound of 8*5*16 = 640 compared to 10*5*16 = 800 on the full fat 4850 and 4870?

oops. Rather an odd thing to happen unless they are, as Badders suggests, releasing something else based on the RV770

Not worth the price, at $20 less than the cheapest 4850.

If it goes under $100, maybe.

I saw this on the techpowerup review as well. It is odd although one saving grace at least from the TPU review is the fact that the 560stream card overclocks like it has a hundred weight of wusabi (sp?!) up its backside.

On another note OCUK and ebuyer have these up for preorder for £99.99 which quite frankly is an absolute rip off. It is only £10 cheaper than the HD4850 (and if you look around it isn't cheaper at all). Why you would choose one of these (at the current pricing) over a HD4850 (or even a 9800GTX+ which I have seen for £99 as well) is beyond me.

i think they fixed it already...

"How to Fix

Grab this BIOS from our VGA BIOS Collection and flash it to the card using WinFlash or ATIFlash.

This BIOS is designed for the AMD reference design samples that were sent out with 560 shaders, there is no reason to flash it on cards from other manufacturers that already have 640 shaders. "
