NZXT might not be the most revered case manufacturer, but it's certainly been busy releasing plenty of new chassis this year. We take a look at its low noise chassis, the NZXT Whisper, to find out if NZXT can change the enthusiast case status quo.

I like most things NZXT but the temp performance is fairly bad on this case. It has a real server look and feel to it IMO. I think it has great potential. Remove those front 2 HDD racks, more the other 2 forward slightly and mount two 360mm or 240mm radiators., perfection lol.

Looks really similar to a P182 in basically the whole design idea and implementation. It's slightly differentiated obviously but it's basically the same design.

And by my recollection the P182 is much cheaper!

It reminds me of the Antec Fridge Case, anyway, Silence is good, but by buying quality fans you can reduce noise as well and thats not limited to a certain case, so in my opinion the better option.

I dont think you are being really fair in this case (groan)...

The case is called the whisper, and with all that harddrive space i could only ever think of this thing as a home server case. You know, 2nd hand AMD 3000, onboard video and a ton of harddisks. You guys reviewed it as a gaming case. I had to literally search for your comments on how well it performs acoustically, for a case called the whisper, thats a bit disappointing.

I dont disagree with your conclusion though, i'd get the P182 or the Akasa every time, even for servers.

We only ever discuss acoustic performance on the last page, and it is really rather quiet, although not the quietest.

It's not billed as a home server, or an HTPC case though, it's billed as a silent case that doesn't compromise on performance or features. We review every case based around what we'd want from our own chassis - it's all right there in the scores; performance, build quality, features, ease of use and value, and fit the same hardware into every case for testing.

Other cases manage to combine excellent cooling with low noise, so why shouldn't that be what we'd expect? Just because a chassis bills itself as low noise isn't an excuse for poor thermal performance. Conversely, we've marked cases down for being too noisy in the past, despite excellent cooling. The trick is finding that sweet spot in the middle.

I really, really am not a fan of NZXT after using an assortment of them for friends. Airflow issues plague the majority of their offerings and not just the Whisper. They're also deceptively heavy, and the plastic fascias of their cheaper pieces are made of pencil leads.

Honestly, the only NZXT case I can recommend is the NZXT Zero. Other than that, I dislike their cases.
