Intel's Core i7 CPUs available now
http://www.bit-tech.net/news/2008/11...vailable-now/1
Intel's new Core i7 processors are now in the channel and actually available to buy. We've scouted prices and rounded them up to see who has the cheapest i7 920.

I see these bad boys making a killing the professional field.
Gamers, though, are likely to stick with their Core 2's for a very long while yet. |

Except for those of us who don't even have a Core 2 to begin with.
My 920 and P6T are on their way.. |

These first 2 posts seem to sum it up perfectly, if you've got Core 2 at the moment this is definitely (unsurprisingly) not worth it at the mo... I look forward to prices dropping to more reasonable levels soon

Ouch. I think I'll wait to see what price the 45nm Deneb-core Phenoms (or Phenom II's, if the web rumour mill is correct...) will be. The motherboards are cheaper (790FX+SB750 DFI board for £120!) and use DDR2...
But I must admit that I7 is tempting.

Phenom II is actually official, not rumor mill - AMD confirmed this on that there Financial Analyst Day they had.
Anyway, I doubt Deneb will make me regret this purchase.. The recession-driven price drops early next year probably will, though. |

About what I expected, given the USD:GBP exchange rate is now about 1.5, the fact that those are inc VAT prices, and the fact that you are quoting UK retail against US volume prices.
Take the cheapest price for the 920 (Aria), which is £246.69 inc VAT. That is £209.95 ex VAT, which is $315.58 at xe.com's current rate of 1.50312. That compares pretty favourably with Newegg.com's retail price of $319.99. The pricing isn't that bad for a new generation of chips at launch - let's bear in mind that these are 45nm quad core chips and they are faster than anything else out there and, by all accounts, supremely overclockable

Oh how I loathe the feebleness of our currency... ZAR4600 for an i7 920, ZAR4900 for the Asus P6T and an equally insane amount for some decent DDR3. Yeah, I don't think I'll be upgrading just yet.

Out of my price range, here's hoping the current socket 775 dual/quad cores nosedive in price for a bargain instead
(especially when Phenom II arrives).

But you are correct: £234.99 for the 920. I'd rather pay more and not have the possibility of dealing with their customer services, however.

Holy Rip Off Batman.... that is if you are shopping at overclockers.co.uk (which I often do)
Just checked their site and its £276 inc our glorious VAT for the 920. Aria at £246 is substantially cheaper. |
