Never was a fan of DFI tbh.
I like the idea that they have concentrated on quality before cost but when you see stuff like the crappy flappy heatsink out the back held in by two flimsy-looking screws, you ave to wonder if they've put the requisite thought into all aspects of the board or just certain (marketable?) areas?

Already ordered my P6T, but the LANParty Jr is tempting. Putting an X58 mATX board in one of those cute Lian Li micro cubes would be nice.

It's definitely oodles of bling and e-peen - typically DFI for sure.

But a floppy port?? Why?? Your average e-peenie who buys DFI boards is only about twelve years old and thinks CD's are "old skool"...

You need a floppy if you're installing XP though right?

Looking at some of the photos, what is that rod underneath the NB heatsink?

The latter.

I'll definitely wait for cheaper boards (w/o the words (E)Xtreme or Deluxe in the name). As I said earlier, maybe in August/September next year. Together with a nice AMD 5xxx? Who knows? I don't really think many people are willing to spend roughly 800-900 quid on MB, CPU and RAM alone.

oh, and floppy is still thing with all the flashes going across the board when tweaking the bios.

Personally, the DFI LANParty UT X58 T3eH8 isn't that impressive...
I'm waiting for the DFI LANParty UT X58 T3eH8aBi9z101k5g88z0 -- I've heard it's got even more acronyms to throw at you.

But in all seriousness... looks good, I've liked DFI boards but their selection often left much to be desired. Hopefully they'll wake up.

I think you're seeing one of the two mounting rods for the heatsink. The lower one looks doubly long due to it being reflected in the heatsink...

if this is yet another £200+ i7 motherboard then forget it ! DFI are normally expensive so it seems likely.

Motherboard manufacturer's seem to have all added on an extra £100 this generation.

X58 is the "cream of the crop" as far Intel's consumer chipsets go. You'll have to wait until P55 rears its head in 2009 to get access to more affordable motherboards for the i7 platform.

P55 won't work with the i7, it won't have QPI. It'll connect to Lynnfield and Havendale processors on the LGA1156 socket via DMI, and who knows what those will be called (unimaginative minds say it'll be 'i5', probably).

X58 is the only LGA1366 game in town for at least a year and a half - if there is an X68 it will be like the X48, just a die shrink. The X58 is a 130nm chip so it wouldn't hurt..
