I got this email today from my father in law, some of you may have already seen it but it's amazing anyway. Apparently the Story is very fake but the pictures are real. What a collection!

A recently retired New York man wanted to use his retirement funds wisely,

decided to buy a home and a few acres in Portugal ...

The modest farmhouse had been vacant for 15 years; the owner and wife

both had died, and there were no heirs.

The estate was being sold to pay back taxes. There had been several lookers,

but the large barn had steel doors, and they had been welded shut. No one

wanted to go to the extra expense to see what was in the barn, and it wasn't

complimentary to the property anyway... so, no one made an offer on the

    place.

The New York gentleman bought it as is, paying just over half of the property's

worth; moved in, and set about to access the barn... curiosity was killing him.

So, he and his wife bought a generator and a couple of grinders... and cut

    thru the welds.

    What was in the barn...?

What a great find. They got lucky.
I wonder what they will do with all of those cars?

afair, it is not an "awesome" find, just some collector's stash of unused-at-the-moment rides

Yes, it's been floating around for ages, it's all fake.

Apparently, the photos were taken by a mechanic of somebody's (i.e somebody not dead) car collection. He was quite pissed off when he saw the photos and the story that went behind the pics.

Whoops! Sorry guys! :duh:It was new to me.....and apparently a fake. I was more amazed at the amount of awesome cars that had just collected dust, most of which I had never even heard of. I noticed in the back (and decription) of one of the pics there was a Triumph. My dad has one of those just sitting around collecting the same amount of dust that one had lol. I think he called it a Spitfire(?)

Indeed, a more accurate story can be found here, and the full set of photographs can be found here.

I am by no means a car guy, but I certainly appreciate the time and effort spent amassing that collection!

    Believe it or not...

Outside of Atlanta there is an Old abandoned WW2 airfield. Inside the hangar is a bunch of old cars. I know this is real because my girlfriend and i stumbled upon it when we were going exploring.

    Google Map Link: http://maps.google.com/?ie=UTF8&ll=34.43324,-84.918517&spn=0.002482,0.005686&t=h&z=18

Interesting old place. going to go back there sometime and see what else i can find

    Aha... Mercer Airfield.

Posted before or not,you think if he could afford all these classics he would have had the foresight to cover them up! Some classics in there, esp the 356(Karmann Ghia)

Yeah indeed, maybe the reason he opened the place up is because the barn possibly got damaged in a storm etc, and the cars where in good condition before that.
