[11/08] Burn Baby Burn

Ok it didn't come out quite how I wanted it but I'm not going to have enough time to re-shoot.
So here it is

Click it for flickr link to bigger sizes

Got the idea for this when watching red dwarf “Demons and Angels” episode whilst eating jellybabies, it was the line, "he's the part of you that held a magnifying glass to his best friends neck, and watched him BURNNN" anyway I though it was sufficiently weird/odd.

Contrast adjusted to clip the background to black, and hue/saturation increased on the jellybabies, and decreased on the shelf

No not even a little bit, I had to use a blow torch to melt the little blighter, and it took a suprisingly long time.

Love the concept, pretty well-executed. I think the black background is a little overpowering (or maybe it's something else, can't quite put my finger on it) but on the whole it's awesome.

I think the backgrounds overpowering because the rest of the image is so minimalistic, it worked alright on the similar shots i took a few months back, but they had more in the foreground. like this one.

It's the one thing that bothers me about it, but don't really know how to correct it or what background i could shoot infront of instead.

How about a very light blue? Perhaps with more light at the top or a lighter color so it's a sky-like gradient in the shots.
I think it might work well with both the pool shot and the new one.

A quick and dirty. Colors, gradients etc leaves lots of room for improvement

Awesome!

As for the owerpowering background: Try moving the burning bear closer to the camera, so that the horizon doesn't "cut him in half". Or you could try using a seamless background (one that go under the subject and behind it, removing the visible horizon. (Don't quite know how to explain that one better...)

That's probably what has been bothering me without realising it. however I only had about 30 minutes to set up and shoot and was distracted with balancing a torch on some cushions to shine through the glass and hit somewhere on the shelf. It really needs a re-shoot with some more easily focusable lighting. Have to wait till I can afford some though

Oh and I like that gradient blue background OleJ, which is funny as the reason I clipped it so black was due to sunlight hitting the background and giving a horrid greyish gradient that I hated.

I really like the idea behind this

It's a shame you haven't got time to recompose and re-shoot (the deadline has been moved to tomorrow morning (UK time) if it helps to know that), as with a tweak of the background I think it'd be an awesome photo.
