Oracle adds data integrity to Linux

http://www.bit-tech.net/news/2008/12...ity-to-linux/1

Database specialist Oracle has teamed up with storage specialist Emulex to donate open-source code for detection of "silent data corruption" to Linux.

TomH is on a distinguished road
I'm not entirely sure how it's meant to be submitted to the 2.6.27 kernel, when it's already been released. Ubuntu 8.10 uses it, for one.

2.6.28 is at rc7, so it'd be a bit late for it to be included. Unless they mean that it's available to be patched in to anything >2.6.27.. Looking at the current kernel development, if you wanted it shipped with a release, it'd probably be 2.6.29 at the absolute earliest.

bowman will become famous soon enough
So it doesn't auto-repair if you have redundancy via mirrors or RAID5/6, like ZFS?

ZFS is so much better than these cobbled Linux file systems.. Don't get me wrong, I love Linux, but for storage it sucks! ZFS is the real deal.

Seems like it would make more sense to put it in the 2.6.28-rc series or just wait for 2.6.28. 2.6.27 is almost about to roll over.

the cool thing is that Oracle can use the collective knowledge of the open source community to improve their software.
