Solved - Sata HDD keeps running CHKDISK on bootup

I'm running XP MCE / Vista 64 Ultimate dual boot (although I'm also having problems with Vista - but that's down to a logitech keyboard driver problem that I'll need to work around).

On boot-up (before the windows log in) CHKDISK runs on my F: Drive everytime I switch the PC on. I think it's either about to fail or has some bad sectors on it (but I'm not 100% sure) as some of my mp3's have become corrupted and so I've moved (almost) everything off it.

The HDD is used as the 'My Documents' System Folder (for both XP and Vista).

I've tried running the scandisk option, the Defrag option and even the format disk option from the disk utilities context menu but no matter what I select it tells me that CHKDISK is scheduled to run at next boot-up and therefore will not run any of the utilities from within windows.

Any ideas as to what's going on?

Thanks,
Mark.

i've had this happen on 2 occasions....
1) the hdd in my folks pc was connected to a sata card, and for some reason the card went faulty and would force windows to run chkdsk every other time as it would corrupt itself within windows. My solution there was an upgrade for them, so a new mobo we brought and the drive now functions 100% properly in windows. note: several formats, including zero level formats were completed before change.

2) and the more likely option... your drive is knackered, if its seagate, try seatools as they can sometimes repair bad sectors or atleast confirm that the drive is on the fritz and then you can rma it to them. if it isnt seagate, i'm sure your particular manufacturer has something similar to help. seen as you've moved your data off of it, rma'ing isnt a bad idea imo, they are pretty swift these days.

hope it helps,

peace
