Google has ditched the traditional cash bonus this Xmas in favour of giving all employees an Android-based G1 handset - which they can't resell, even if they already have one.

British property law says that the recipient of a 'personal gift' is the legal owner of it, and can do what they want with it.

Mine would be sold in a heartbeat.

Let's see. Instead of getting a bonus, the employee gets to provide free advertising for Google. Hmm, somehow that just doesn't seem quite like the same thing to me

Do you think the employees are entitled to complain? A free G1 is better than nothing, and I think google is probably in the minority of companies who do bother with xmas bonuses.

Hum, not sure I want my company giving me a phone for Christmas. Especially if they know the number. I think its their ploy to be able to call the employees at anytime, even after normal work hours. I have a blackberry, but there is no way in hell I will give my bosses the number to it.
