Which ever way you decide, you need to add some sort of plastic clip to prevent mini-discs from falling down (if you mount tray ejecting upwards that is). I'm yet to see any drive that provides protection from slipping when using mini-discs. If you think that you wont ever use them, still mount the drive down facing if you can, that way the disc will allways fall down, and not into the drive internals.

Who would ever use mini disc?

This mod is for the gamer in mind. Who wants a nice looking case with a different style to the front.

I have a few games that are backed up to mini-dvd. Portal, monkey island 3, etc. but good luck if you go ahead with the mod

mounting bracket question

If all goes well with this mod, then I might try it with a drive like that in a laptop.

Have a question for you modders out there.

I have the mounting bracket made out of sheetmetal already, just wondering, does the majority use the top two drive bays much?

In this sketchup, the blue area can be optional if a desire was to use a multipanel display or other device?

I was also thinking of adding a fan or two in that area...they would be of course 60mm size fans...

What do you guys/gals think??

It would depend on what you're planning on cooling behind them. I mean, 60mm are quite loud and they don't push a great amount of air to show for it. If possible, I would lower the drive position and install something a little bigger (at least 80mm), but that's just my opinion.

Also those mini-cds are quite rare, you only really see them with el cheapo mp3 players and breakfast cereals, as well as those Sony DVDs you get with their DVD Handycams.
