I'm assuming that, as I voted on the first day the poll went up, that my vote is then carried through to the end? I.e. I don't have to vote every day or something daft?

Yes it is, the voting accumulates and the winner gets randomly chosen from them all. If you voted on the very first day you've had 6 chances, but people voting yesterday had just one for example.
