Games mags have a tough time of it

http://www.bit-tech.net/news/2009/01...h-time-of-it/1

Well colour us smug, but our paper based brethren are having a tough old time of it it seems. Not only has EGM been closed, but Hardcore Gamer is for sale.

Dennis feel like expanding? That's not a lot of money for a US mag.

No surprise there, you can read the same stuff for free on the internet, you don't have any waste to dipose of afterwards, you get more detailed text (after all, room in a print magazine is limited), you get it earlier and on top of that, for free (well, you have to look at stupid ad's, but it's not like print magazines woudn't have them).

Even Newspapers are struggling and those usually have a older and less computer using target audience.

This has seemed a little inevitable, especially in the technology sector.

This doesn't surprise me at all. The last time I looked at a printed game magazine was at a doctor's office. It was lying on the table and I had nothing better to do with the time given to me by the inevitable wait.

I stopped reading gaming mags a long, long time ago, I bought the very occasional official PS2/Xbox mag for the demo disks bit since the dawn of downloadable demos and videos on the 360 and PS3 the last reason to get a gaming mag has gone IMO.

My thoughts exactly. The only time I pick up a magazine is when I'm in a waiting room. Personally I think most magazines will be out of business in the future. The only kind of print you'll see is newspapers and books. Those are the only two things I can't stand to read on a computer screen.
