OCZ's next generation Vertex 2 SSD claims a whopping 550MB/s read and 480MB/s write!

Sign me up for one.

Any word on price? Overclockers have the 60gb Vertex 1 pre-order for £207, but cost per gb needs to come down to seriously compete with current hdds.

edit: just noticed that the 0.5 to 8 range is missing from the graphs. I take it small writes are still slow then.

I think I just had a little sex-wee.

Sounds good, though price will be through the roof I'd expect.

when is the next SATA standard coming?

IMHO the best configuration for SSD is to have a drive where almost all it does is to read system files, and have temp folder (eg, the unmoveable AppData in Vista) somwhere on a Raptor together with page files. That way, longer life for SSD, and very fast temp file read/write.

ok, so it overloads the standard... will hooking it up to a PCIe RAID controller help?

Internal quad raid... idk, but that sounds expensive to me!

No, not unless it has multiple SATA connectors and allows for the onboard RAID to be done elsewhere.

You trust anything that comes from Fud? Still if this is true it would be great (assuming pricing was reasonable)

I could care less about speeds that i can't use unless i use my time machine to buy a future motherboard, right now i'd much rather see the flash ware issue cured. I don't want my SSD that's worth its weight in gold wearing out with 1000 writes.

The standard is due to be finalised this year, with the products probably appearing in force around 2010.

It's been done, move along. Modern SSDs have MTBFs into the millions of hours (just like your mechanical disk.)

If you want to know how it's done, then use Google.

Guys, on another Forum (xs) it was allready posted by a OCZ Employee that it was a Simulation only, not a real drive.
They do plan to put multiple controllers into one SSD to increase speeds, but the first ones will have two, not four, those with four won't be out soon.

I thought that most ssd's(now) like the intel 32gb and the 80gb last like 72 years if you write 100gb a day to them for 72 years then all of the chips are burnt out? I think i got that from tech report

It won't be too long if Sandisk can keep up with this promise.

Probably in time for my next major upgrade!
