How AI in Games Works

http://www.bit-tech.net/gaming/2009/...-games-works/1

NPCs have progressed from simple rule-based sprites to human-like figures that appear to think for themselves. We look at how the developers of F.E.A.R. 2, Dawn of War 2, Fallout 3 and Crysis achieve the illusion of intelligence for the characters in their games.

Probably, but given they're the same company now, why not? I doubt there's too much reader crossover.

Yes it is, bit annoying really if I can read the same content on a website a couple of weeks later, why exactly do I buy the magazine again? :P

Excellent article. Well done! It must of being a bugger to get through all the content and write.

I've been learning about state machines recently, it's great to see them actually in use instead of in a dry old text book.

Great article! A lot of research done for this. And a really good read.

And yeah, I don't care if it's a copy/paste from CPC because I don't read CPC. And I bet most people don`t.

Cheers, Ben!

i've worked on AI for some while. i think you have missed some additional complexities. they are subtle but indispensable, like critia design / matching, self evolving, AI scalability, physical world interactions and predictions.

Just a month ago I read an article a (not on here) that CPU makers are pressing the games to start considering the CPU more for graphics, presumably because they want to ensure they have growth in their market and they have noticed a trend that games are heavy on the GPU but CPU's have gotten so advanced that they aren't being used to their fullest (multiple cores come to mind). Then I read this article which claims we have a problem with CPU's being stretched to their limit. So which is it?
