And let me ask you this: What OS do you run? I know its one of the three said on this page(Linux, Mac or Windows). FYI, Linux is the better, more secured OS of the three. Not saying its perfect, it does have its flaws, but How many times have you heard of Linux being hacked/virus'ed in comparison to Windows or Mac? I cant even count one. So, what do you have to say now?

While I agree in principle you are wrong

The reason linux is not attacked as often is because the amount of users using linux is very low in comparison to windows and osx. Also if you count all the different distros using different security flaws/strengths it would be extremely difficult to create a virus that did any significant damage. Also the people who write these virii (or whatever the plural) usually have a bone to pick or some sort of anti-corporate agenda so windows and to a lesser extent OSX is a perfect target.

I use Vista/xp/ubuntu/open suse so I am reasonably well positioned to make a judgement on the matter.

Well, you know what I mean. And yeah you have a very valid point with the many distros of linux, Im just saying, has it ever been done? Because Ive never heard of something being hacked or a virus created for linux? But still, i get what your saying

I use Windows generally, also have Ubuntu. But your complacency on security does acctually scare me.

How many implementations on Windows is there? Not many all from the same company which has the largest market share by a country mile. How many implementations is there for Linux? All from different distros which do different things with each one not having a large market strength on its own. So why would anyone target Linux? Linux is in this sense more secure as whose going to waste there time making something for a Linux distro that has 1 maybe 2% of market share when you can hit windows and 90% of the PC's in the world.

Not hard to find them, the thing with Linux is alot of stuff which should be implemented properly isn't. The thing that scares me with the Linux community is because of the complacency it dosn't even seem like there trying, like their above this which their not and thats how big problems start.

Just look back at the DNS spoofing, wasn't exactly hard because almost all the Linux implementations never implemented what little security there is properly.

Also all the distros in the world are Linux they have different software running on them but the core is still Linux so any low level issues will effect all distros, most of the time this is only the kernel but some tools are common across most if not all.

Complacency may be common at the user end (much as it is in windows world) but if you look round the mailing lists etc its far from complacency.

i think the virus bypassed me, not sure tho.

I am a little against googling conficker as i dont want to potential find myself on a site which decides to give it me.

What would i notice with if i did get it?

I download a lot of crap, yet I have not picked up this Conflicker C, surely it's passed through stupidity of PC users i.e. opening email attachments from spammers, going onto dodgy websites and downloading a movie that is 10kb is size and is a .exe etc.
