Gigabyte's Open Overclocking Championship

http://www.bit-tech.net/hardware/200...championship/1

Fourteen teams made up of Europe's overclocking elite were taking part in the European final of the 2009 Gigabyte Open Overclocking Championship in Prague. We followed the UK team's efforts to see how they fared against Europe's best overclockers.

Other info we gleaned from the event was of some amazing new fans from Enermax. Called the Apollo range of fans, they have no less than fifteen LEDs arranged around the fan grill that look dazzling when the fan is spinning. They have a switch for the LEDs and also sport a removable fan which can be detached for cleaning.
Great coverage, but the passage above doesn't make sense lol... a fan with a removeable fan?

Well I have a few suggestions for them:
1) Ditch FDD
2) Ditch IDE
3) Ditch PS/2

Still reading the article, but why did Gigabyte go with the GA-EX58-UD4P instead of their range topping GA-X58-Extreme?

Combatus will become famous soon enough
The entire fan section was removable, bearing and all, only leaving the cage.

I agree with the first two but using PS/2 as opposed to USB can gain you points in certain benchmarks believe it or not!

I think this was a great event and it's good to see Gigabyte organising such a thing. However I have a concern with Gigabytes country selection in particular the UK. What I can see is they only selected customers in particular "BIG customers like Midland computers & YOYO tech. There are a lot of talented overclockers in the UK who never got the chance to participate. The people I mentioned before had "NO" experience with extreme cooling. It's all a bit silly I think, I hope next year Gigabyte put's beter thourght into who participates.

Gigabyte UK organized local Overclocking event few weeks earlier. It was announced in the media and also in our Forum: http://forum.giga-byte.co.uk/index.php/topic,160.0.html. Everybody was able to come and take his chance. Unfortunately not many overclockers arrived, believe me. Next year i hope we will make the same competition in UK, so there shouldn't be a problem for you or anybody else who really wants to participate.

And if you know any of good UK overclockers please PM me with their contact details, i will be happy to invite them to the next round of GOOC

Thanks GIGA-MAN.
Ok, I must admit that I did see the notice of the event posted on my team's forum (benchtec) and was told that only 2 team members can participate which were already deceided before I saw the notice.
The problem is that on benchtec there are "TOO" many good overclockers and we have to fight for the 2 placements. I just hope next year I will be considered good enough to have a try. Anyway all the best Gigabyte on the finals in Taiwan :-)

Hi

the reason GIGABYTE decided to use the GA-EX58-UD4P and not the GA-EX58-Extreme is because the Extreme is in a bit of a shortage.
The demand is too high, that same applies to the GA-EX58-UD5P, however the UD4P is widely available, hence the reason we decided to rather use the UD4P.
We also wanted to show to everyone that even our UD4P can perform well when overclocking.
It's not just the Extreme that should be used for overclocking.
The UD4P is cheaper, yet it performs brilliantly.

GIGA-Man I like Your name, Sounds like Super Hero....

Also I'm big fan of Gigabyte and I want to suggest this :

1) Ditch FDD
2) Ditch IDE
3) Make Boards with Blue And White Colors ( No Rainbow Colors all in the same time )

Other than that. GIGABYTE is the best motherboards guys out there..... All Respect.

Also if I can join that OC Championship next year Don't u accept lonely guys or try to find teams in Egypt or Dubai ?

"As soon as the event started it was a hive of activity from start to finish, even during the lengthy practice sessions. Final preperations included the wrapping of pots in tissue paper to stave of the condensation for a bit longer."

Should be "stave off"

Great article, love seeing what's possible even if I, as a mere mortal, will never come close. I wish I had that much LN2 to play with as well.
