No it doesn't - I've been living with my girlfriend for about 7 months now, and it's still got a load of unpacked boxes - all we did was move them out the way

That aside, to all the CPC members, welcome to Bit-Tech. You'll feel a tad displaced at first - but bear this in mind - i've noticed a few of you have been saying about leaving a more homely forum, and coming to bit, which seems to be regarded as somewhat of a mammoth forum.

Bit wouldn't be this big if it was shite - we're fairly large for a reason - think about it.

But give bit a chance - the articles are generally pretty good, the community rocks, once you get over the cheesecake / relix memes, and also we generally have some decent project logs to mozy over in the forum.

Aside from that - welcome to the 'tech

Although I've been lurking on bit for longer than I care to admit, and been a member for a few years now I am glad to see the major regulars from here (Jhanlon, Mankz, Cheaps etc) giving a warm welcome and encouragement to the new members from CPC.

As a previous BT member myself I also welcome the new peeps and echo John's comments about taking yourselves out of this forum for a bit and exploring the scores of epic threads that BT has to offer. I guessed that it might happen for a few days or so that new members would not post in the other forums but please do, all the people here at BT are friendly folk that would love to have you participate in their discussions as they will do in here. The demotivational thread kills hours at a time and provides an easy source of side splitting laugher! For those CPC members into their cars you'll feel very at home here also

As for the post count thing, I'd like to thank Alex and whichever (if any) BT staff member that helped him out with it for adding my CPC post count onto my BT one. Post counts don't really mean that much to me unless they're epic like on my own forum - with me its all about post quality, not post quantity , but it was nice of them to do it for those of us that asked!

May I just add that whilst I get the cheesecake thing, having been here for years I still have no clue what the owls/ relix joke is... I hope someone, someday, will enlighten me

Roffle, I did a bit of forum searching yesterday so I think I'm up to speed on most of the in-jokes (this may help you and anyone else that's a bit confused). Hopefully now I won't get lost in every conversion

Still unsure of the owls, though...

Made the switch to here. When I last moved house, my missus conveniently got food poisoning the night before from a prawn curry and i ended doing 11 van trips loading and unloading all our furniture and possessions on my own.

I'm hoping I don't have a bad back for the next two weeks due to this move. Haven't been to these forums before but sure I'll feel settled soon.

The owls have appeared in the last couple weeks. Sometimes we just change avatars like socks.

Heh, the last time our family moved house (When I was still living at home) it took a lot more than 11 van loads to move more than 20 years of accumulated belongings My parents were so tired after we eventually got settled into a bare walled and floored (new build) house that they both assured me we'd (my bro and I) be carrying them out of this one :P Tbh 7 years on there is still a fair amount of tools and equipment belonging to my father in a storage space in town. I guess going from a 60' x 40' garage with a built in car pit to a small basement garage has it's limitations

As for the in-jokes, thanks for the explanations! At last

Congrats! , by those standards Adam would be second and I'll happily take the bronze, given the only Blog of the Month winner naffed off and never updated it after he got the prize

Whatever's not offered or respected by BT/Dennis gives me back a few more hours of my life at the end of the day. I think Combatus getting a job off his blog/freelancing is a fitting tribute to them and the site in general and I've still backed mine up to Word before the plug gets pulled.

(There you go Alex, that's one for the Wired Jester - the best way to back up your blog in its entirety if you've put lots of whizz-bang stuff in it, not just text).

Completed my move over by wiping my Firefox history bar with CPC's entry, and refreshing the Bit-Tech page to make it the replacement. So off we go!

I've got to ask. What's with all the different colour codings of the threads? Blue, two greys, and two greens so far.

It's related to whether a post is (un)read and whether you posted in that thread.

Green = unread, you've posted
Yellow = unread
Blue = read, you've posted
Grey = read
Dark-grey = locked

I think it's to do with whether there are new posts, replies to what you've posted etc.

Also, you can turn it off in the CP under Options. I think it's called thread highlighting or something similar.

Well we knew for a while (thanks to Alex et al) that the CPC site was going to be merged with Bit-Tech. What we didn't get any warning of was the death of The Meeting Place.

I think over the last few days we've all had a good bitch about that, but it's time to move on now.

Grey is for a locked/closed thread, yellow is for threads you haven't commented in and green is threads you HAVE commented in that have new messages.

Welcome to you all!

I understand that the closing of the CPC forums was a bit "rough". Hopefully you will find this a good substitute. Sure, it's a bit different but I think you will like it here as soon as you get used to it.

Many people doesn't like change. I have seen lots of people complain each time BT change forum layouts. (I think there have been 2 or 3 major "makeovers") Every time there is a lot of fuss, and many people complain, but as soon as the dust settles, most seems to be OK with most of the changes, and I'm sure you will be happy to be here as soon as you get used to it. There have already been some people that have made themselves noticed in that manner. Kudos to them.

So, enjoy your stay, and be sure to try out the cheesecake! (Quickly before Bindi grabs it all...!)
