Renovatio_Design has yet to learn the way of the Dremel
Hello everyone,

This is my first post in this section, Congrats guys! Great Renders!.

This is my Octus Service Medal Replicas of the honors bestowed on Adam Fenix, Marcus's father, for his work on the Hammer of Dawn.

I made it the first day they went on sale.

Thanks for watching.

Nice, thanks for joining the party. I like the first one by far the most of those three renders. The second one is pretty cool but the third doesn't appear to belong.

Thanks for the welcome MP, the third has only one material applied for the entire scene.

I'm not very happy with my first attempt at face modeling:

It's kind of a pain in the ass.

You can try this tutorial from Krishnamurti :

part 1 : http://www.antropus.com/tutorial_head1.html
part 2 : http://www.antropus.com/tutorial_head2.html

http://www.antropus.com/artblog/

The idea is to keep the basic mask and reuse it for all your face modeling (just place it over a face drawing / pictures and line-up the edges to match the face muscules).

The tutorial is aimed at a very cartoonist face, but trust me it can be used for any face

Krishnamurti amaizing wesite can be found here : http://www.antropus.com/artblog/

Ps : This tutorial was given to me by a professionnal 3D artist that worked on many movies (Harry potter, Matrix, etc.)

EDIT : Visit this page of Krishnamurti

http://www.antropus.com/private/cust...folio/home.htm

Especially the "Plumber's Facial Rigging Videos" part (do a Ctrl-F with the sentence between quotes, without the quotes of course ). This uses the mask technics I gave to you.

Thanks GuilleAcoustic. I'm on probably my third tutorial. The one that got me this far was probably the most useful but I am more than willing to try out the tutorial you mentioned, it seems to have good results. I'll probably finish this one first so my teacher doesn't come to the conclusion that I am incapable of finishing a project. Harry Potter and the Matrix, that's an odd combo.

The first two tutorials involved box modeling and I prefer point/polygon modeling (at least at this point) for laying out the face mesh but prefer box modeling for the shape of the head. Either way, I really appreciate you pointing me in a new direction . . practice makes perfect.

It's a relief to know that you don't have to model every character completely from scratch. It's not the first time I have heard this but if I keep telling myself that then perhaps I can get through this jk though, it's actually a lot of fun. It only becomes frustrating when you lose a bunch of work to your own stupidity (like putting lips on the front and back of the head instead of just the front or forgetting to save after spending hours tweaking the mesh).

Thanks for the welcome Tangster, I like the first over the second.
The third is just to show the lights only.

You tried, Mudbox or Mudbox. Very Powerful for organic modeling.
Modeling at very high polys, and then export low polys model with displacement map.

Examples:

Mudbox.

Zbrush.

But then you have to retopologize the result anyway. I've always prefered modelling the base mesh first before doing detail and normal maps in mudbox.

I kind of figured as much but it's good to hear this. Eventually I would like to get into ZBrush but I do not have the funds at the moment. My school is planning on teaching it in a couple of semesters.

I'm really enjoying learning more about 3D modeling. I spent some time modeling an ear in a separate file for practice. It turned out pretty well but I couldn't seem to get it to line up with my model... more points on the ear than the side of the head.

Here's my ear:

(I know it's not that good but I'm pretty happy with how it's all coming along).

I still have a long way to go and a lot to learn about rendering but I think I'm starting to get there slowly. Just need more hours in the day to learn max or something other than sketchup!

My future living \ dining room when I get round to building the units

What programs do people use for Creating computers/phones/games consoles?
Only I have taken GCSE Product Design and could do with a decent program that I can use at home to get myself a better grade.
Cheers.

I'd start out with Google Sketchup.
