Red Faction: Guerrilla Review

http://www.bit-tech.net/gaming/ps3/2...rilla-review/1

From the makers of Crackdown comes a new Red Faction game where you can destroy anything you see. Is it just a simple gimmick to support an otherwise boring game, or is it just another reason that you should take a look at this Martian revolution? We find out!

Looks OK, but I'll wait to see if the PC version just turns out to be a crappy console port.

Question: if a Transformer ran on an Ethanol fuel-mix then would it get drunk?
Answer: No, the ethanol would be combusted (oxidised into CO2 and H2O), rather than metabolised. Also, circuits, dude, it's made of circuits, does you watercooled rig get drunk off the ethylene glycol?

Alternate answer: No, because Transformers aren't lightweight drinkers.

look at the bright side, if they use more time to finish it, it may not end up as a bad port, but I might just be dremaming here

The way I see it is this way you know the general quality of a game before it comes out, so you can preorder relatively safely and get whatever discounts that includes. So it's not all bad, although for games you know you want it's terrible, it felt like forever waiting for Mass Effect.

There is always going to be a problem with a game where you can knock down meter-thick concrete walls with a sledgehammer - you are far too overpowered. Considering they have to make the enemies reasonably powerful, they have to be massively overpowered too in order to be able to withstand a hit from what essentially amounts to a wrecking crane.

At this point, weapons also have to become ridiculous and the game loses all credibility.

I think it would be better if they toned the player down a bit - it is good having destructible environments but we how about walls that will collapse if a tank drives through them, and when cars crash into wall they might destroy the wall but themselves too. Then you can re-balance the enemies and the world will be a much happier place

Joe - by the sounds of things from the front page your girlfriend approves of you playing Leisure Suit Larry?

Have you actually played it? The enemies don't withstand a hit from it, it's a 1 hit kill weapon. It's also a melee weapon, so you have to run up to them to kill them with it. Which often means you run up to them while getting shot, and after you've killed the guy, there's 5 other guys surrounding you blasting you to pieces.

A powerful melee weapon bothers you that much?

I have quite a few issues with the physics, I was taking down a giant 4 story building, the entire lobby was gone and I couldn't figure out why the building wasn't coming down.. turns out there was a tiny 2" thick metal support, so thin I had trouble actually aiming at it, took it out, whole building collapsed on top of me and I only took a tiny bit of damage.

I wish it had co-op though, would be much more entertaining to take out bridges with 2 people.

Also it's kind of a shame that once buildings/bridges are destroyed, they're gone forever.

People would be complaining about them respawning otherwise. I for one don't want any more FC2-esque check points!

It seems bridges randomly respawn.. and certain EDF buildings get rebuilt..

Anyways, I'm having a major issue.. I cannot find any walkers. It's really ticking me off, I found 2 or 3 of the light walkers and 2 missile walkers during the campaign, and I finished the campaign, and now I can't find any of them. I haven't even used the Heavy walker outside of the mission.

Anyone else having this issue? People keep saying they're all over the place, I've been methodically combing the map back and forth to try and find one, not finding anything. This also goes for tanks and stuff. It's really ticking me off >.<

capnPedro: metabolism and combustion are similar processes operating on different time scales. However it is not the release of energy from ethanol which results in inebriation, rather, ethanol itself is a psychoactive substance. As we do not know exactly how transformers work (they may have semi-organic components or sensors) it is possible that ethanol could have similar effects on them. Though this is more likely due to the creation of parity errors in their software than the suppression of neuro-receptors.
