Early Look: Asus Maximus III Formula

http://www.bit-tech.net/hardware/mot...-iii-formula/1

We grab some shots of Asus' latest Republic of Gamers motherboard, the Maximus III Formula. It uses Intel's P55 chipset and has some interesting new features. We dig deep into its new red and black looks to see what's on the horizon.

Maybe I'm just stupid and/or blind, but aren't there 8(+1) USB connectors on the picture? Somehow the I/O still seems lacking.. I guess it's the "external" sound card that makes it looks so empty.

i always thought the higher the heatsink, the better it's cooled (think TRUE vs lower/smaller heatsinks) why no one makes a PWM heatsink that's as tall as the standard 120mm fan that goes above the rare IO panel.

the netbook OC features seems to be great idea. with a BIOS flashing feature will give you complete piece of mind.
i wonder how it's done though, Netbook being the master on the USB bus and the mobo being the USB slave? or other way round?

Unless there'll be some horrible design flaw, this'll be the board I'm getting. Love the color scheme.

There's the fine balance between compatibility and cooling performance. Sure on this mobo there would be room for higher heatsinks, but I remember reading somewhere that the power consumption of the P55 chipset is surprisingly low, and it wouldn't need a huge heatsink to begin with. Dunno about that, we'll have to wait and see some temperature testing.

6 USB 2.0 and 2 USB 3.0 I can only see one RJ45 port though.

Take a chill pill. It was my fault and has NOTHING to do with anyone else. I wrote it ****ing late last night. I'll just post the pictures next time then you can work it out yourself.

I used to put tape on my eyes and overclock my nvidia board to be like shamino.. then my friend would come over and he would be kingp|n.. but I quit doing it after he treated me like a asian boytoy

I like the board.. it looks gimmicky but if it does the dirtywork who cares

So people cant make a mistake anymore these days. What about :

"seems you made a error with counting RJ45 plugs and USB connectors" . Ah thank you very much I will fix it.

That sounds a lot nicer don't you think? Or is it normal for you to overreact and being rude to other people?

What a horrble thing to say...

That aside:

For a moment I though they were including a NF200 chip in the motherboard. Otherwise, isn't this an excuse to charge more for the motherboard, or does it really have an impact on the MOSFETS?

Yep, spot on. P55 chipset for the new LGA1156 socket for Core i5. Due in September, so you've got a bit of time to read up and be ready!

I'm waiting for the mid-range Asus P55/P57 boards, well the ones under $175. Because as history has shown, those boards are the best OC'ers.

They really need to sort the colour of the bottom 16x slot. Wrecks the whole look.

Also whoever designed the 'NB' cooler needs taken out and shot. From the looks of it too high and close even for Asus's own SFxII card. Yea have something there to bulk it up a bit, but not get in the way. As cool and the mosfet coolers look they are a bit weedy compaired even to the M2F. Something like EVGA or DFI's heatpipes would have been nice.
