My first real digital camera!

So for my graduation my parent's got me a cannon powershot SD770 IS digital elph camera, all I know is its got 10 mp, and no crazy zoom but it seems like a damn solid pocket camera. Could anyone care to indulge me about some of the cool features this can offer in English terms, and what I can expect form this for cool "wow" factors, all my parents previous camera's I never had time to mess with, and I don't know what any of the controls or anything really do... I just know how to turn it on, point, shoot, and check... that's about it... As of now I've got a 2gb basic sd card, which should be more than enough for basic use right?

Thanks in advance!

As condescending as this may sound I'd recommend reading the manual...it will give you more info than anyone of us can.

Camera manuals are about the only manual that I've read all the way through. The other guys are right, all the stuff you need to know is in there.

I'll give it a read during the next few days... So far very pleased with the picture quality, and I know the camera can do a lot as my brother has a similar cannon, along with my sister also... Around my house no one likes sharing cameras so I've got one, my brother had 2, but gave 1 to my oldest brother who's a mechanic and uses it to take pictures of the cars at work, my sister wanted one, my parent's have 2x cannon rebel XLR's, one digital, one film, and they also have a cannon pocket digital camera... all of the pocket ones are the elph series and I've used them for pics but never really experimented until I got my own... Once I figure out mine, and if I enjoy photography, I plan to grab a faster larger memory card and grab my parent's xlr, maybe a lens, and a tripod and start taking quality pics.

Always manually set the WB if you can on that camera. Between my wife an my parents, I've been around several in that lineup. They're great cameras for the money and most are quite decent at video as well.

Photography is how I make my living. Got a 5d mark ii recently and still read the manual.

Might seem a bit odd - but if your family as a whole is into photography in that way - have you tried asking your parents? Part of the idea of the gift might have been as an excuse to spend more quality time together... (not to say you don't have that already or anything, it's just an idea)

Let's see some shots! Congrats on the camera. They take excellent video for being so darn small.
