Greetings!

Nah. GGF knows that content owners need to be "compensated" by the use of its contents.
Quote:
Acquisitions of The Pirate Bay and new file sharing technology, P2P 2.0
- Pave the way for compensation model

...
Following the completion of the acquisitions, GGF intends to launch new business models that allow compensation to the content providers and copyright owners. The responsibility for, and operation of the site will be taken over by GGF in connection with closing of the transaction, which is scheduled for August 2009.

"We would like to introduce models which entail that content providers and copyright owners get paid for content that is downloaded via the site" said Hans Pandeya, CEO GGF.
Great timing, though.
After the european elections, where someone from PirateParty got a seat on the European Parliament, and just after the courts legitimized the judge that handled the TPB trial.

A foundation needs staff, staff needs to get paid, who do you think the foundation will hire?

I have no problem with it hiring whoever it wants, there needs to be some kind of concerted effort to push these issues, and the guys from thepiratebay are already public figures, who better to run with this?

So does this mean the "guily 4" now have enough money to pay the fines that the court levied against them? Or more likely to pay off their lawyers? In their "rebuttal" after the case they mentioned that they aren't paying the fine as they don't have the money and even if they did they wouldn't on principal. So now that it looks like they will have the money.....

they arent getting the money, its going into a foundation, plus the 4 people on trial dont own thepiratebay it changed hands in 2006 so theres no way, i believe, that the court can get this money.

From Twitter (Translated)

Daniel Goldberg:
@ brokep Is this correct? http://bit.ly/1YR0m

Peter S Kolmisoppi:
@ danielg0ldberg Yes.

Daniel Goldberg:
@ brokep What a thing! Who gets the money? Who owns the TPB?

Peter S Kolmisoppi:
@ danielg0ldberg Foreign company, with demands from our side to finance a fund for internet projects. We get no money.

Daniel Goldberg:
@ brokep Cool. What do you mean internet project? Will you not have to use the money to cover the damages?

Peter S Kolmisoppi:
@ danielg0ldberg Internet Project in the form of political activism, etc. TPB changed hands in 2006 already to not be sued.

Daniel Goldberg
@ brokep Congratulations, the scoop! Who is the owner of TPB today?

Peter S Kolmisoppi:
@ danielg0ldberg It's partly why we've have been so sure that lawsuits against us is pointless in the end :-)

Peter S Kolmisoppi:
@ danielg0ldberg I do not think that I may say for legal reasons. But they are people we trust. And have conditioned things too..

It might be a deal to change to name of the owners so Peter, Daniel and Co. don't go to Jail ..who knows? It does seem like a very small amount of money for something that has such a large audience and possible income sources. Imagine - if they charged €1 to register to access PB, thats €100 there easily.

Convicted by a judge who was in league with pro copyright bodies, ratified by another judge linked to these... Until they have been through the appeals procedures nothing is certain.
