Tales of Monkey Island: Episode One Review

http://www.bit-tech.net/gaming/pc/20...e-one-review/1

Joe steps into the long-absent boots of Guybrush Threepwood and sets out, deep into the Caribbean in the first episode of the new Secret of Monkey Island series, Launch of The Screaming Narwhal. Is it a fitting continuation to the legendary series, or an insult to all things piratey?

I loved the original Monkey Island, though the second installment was my favourite. Now I just need to decide which platform to get it for. I could go for the PC version as I think it should feel 'right' but I may get it for the Wii too as I'm sure my kids will love it. Having said that, I don't think they would care if they played it on the PC or Wii as they are pretty adept when it comes to the ol' mouse and keyboard.

Glad you liked it Joe.

I see a pretty happy Joe...

Hmmm... it would be nice to just buy the 1st Episode and give it a try. Is that possible?
I had too many bad experiences with good ol' Simon's remakes though I'm quite sure this one is better.

Aaah ... Monkey Island. So many memories ... might have to bite the bullet and install Windows on a spare machine now.

Can we have a 'reimagining' of 'Day Of The Tentacle' next. Pretty please?

I've been a fan of the Monkey Island series for ages, Curse was probably my favourite although LeChuck's Revenge was definately the most challenging. I'm gald they're bringing these out, though I almost wish it was all in one go straight away - I've always enjoyed the series most when I play it for hours on end. Either way, I've bought the season already with the offer they had going, just wish they would sort out the site so I can download Ep 1 already!

Surprised it's not coming to the 360 arcade seeing as the Sam and Max Episodes are all on there now, as are the Wallace and Grommet games

It will, but just like Sam and Max it'll make the move when the series is finished.

Bah, I'll have to wait to get my whore points then. Luckily Telltale do seem good at bringing out episodes quite frequently.

Good review all round tbh,

It has made me seriously consider getting my server box into a M. I. machine.. any idea of specs needed to run this thing?

i'm glad Dom came back to do the voice for guybrush, thatwas really unexpected since his last voice over role was a long time ago.

I think this might be rather popular - I can't get on to the Telltale website to download my copy, it keeps timing out

Same here.

Have been watching the forums this afternoon, they started getting iffy from 4PM onwards (database timeouts) and finally dying completely at 5PM (the time it was rumoured to be released, so i'm guessing they just got accidentally DDoS'd by all the rabid MI fans )

edit: website is this now

Can't stand the visual style. And it's not by Ron Gilbert.

Therefore, pointless.

Ron Gilbert was actually very involved in the project, redesigning Guybrush and guiding the team involved.

No telling. AFAIK it should be at http://www.telltalegames.com/mytelltale/purchases when you've bought it, it should have a download button to the right of the game. The forums are still down, too, so I guess we'll just have to wait and see.

Erm, I don't think so. AFAIK he just spent a couple of days with the team. Probably filling them in on a few background bits and gameplay fluff. Oh and a couple of lunches presumably... That doesn't constitute being 'very involved' in a game, not by a very long shot indeed. And if you think it does, you don't have much idea of a game development cycle.
