i5 / i7 folding

All the reviews seem to be raving about the new i5/i7 chips (http://www.scan.co.uk/Product.aspx?WebProductId=1065486) as they overclock nicely and the i7 are great in multithread apps when you turn on hyperthreading ....

But the real question is, are they going to be any better than C2Q or current i7 chips for folding ?

The i5 without hyperthreading look good value for money

From reading the bit-tech reviews the i5 is a good upgrade from a core2 but it's still better to but an i7 920 for performance (& bigadv's). They're also limited to 16 pci-e lanes so 2 cards max.

Scan have a micro-ATX board with 2 pci-e x1's for £80 so I might pick up a cheap combo for a test.

Err, not the ASR**k board? No, no, don't do it! I don't fancy your chances of getting a good stable overclock on that for the bigadv.

If you'd like the MSI P55-GD80 board I bought the other day from Scan in the "50% off promo", drop me a PM. (My intention was to do a little i5 testing myself, but I'd forgotten I have a spare 920 anyway. Reality is that I have a bunch of other stuff to work on, so I know I'm probably not going to get around to doing anything with it for a month or so.)

I'm sure there was another one but I might have been mistaken in my 5am browsing.

Might PM you once I get back to London on Saturday (3G browsing is rubbish in Dorset.)

Fair enough. No hassle either way. I'll get around to doing something with it myself..... eventually. It just might take a while.
