not all coolers fit 1366
Hi - depressingly not all 1366 coolers fit all 1366 mobos. There are stories of cutting and bending and blocked dimm sockets. Also overhanging coolers preclude the use of 'high' memory modules.
A search for any internet thread which combined my mobo (Asrock X58 Extreme) and the highly recommended Scythe Mugen2 was futile. A visit to the Scythe website offered a mobo compatiblity list last updated in April and my mobo was not on it for better or worse. However there were lots of diagrams and measurements which on the face of it are helpful except you have to be able to take measurements of your mobo (which you need in your hands before ordering a cooler!) - impossible with an existing fitted cooler and not simple without one! I was not convinced it would fit in my case. Other cooler sites were similar. However loooking at the NH-U12P SE1366 I went to the Noctua site which I thought was excellent and very helpful. It was only by chance that I fell over the potential problems as I had thought any 1366 cooler would fit any 1366 mobo. And there is the memory height problem... Perhaps you highlighting these problems would save a few 'returns' and improve suppliers websites. cheers |

This isn't a new problem. I had the same issue with my Q6600 and Striker Extreme - my AC Freezer 7 Pro would not fit on in the orientation it is supposed to as the motherboard cooling pipes and heatsinks were huge and the Freezer didn't have enough clearance.
It would be good for this to be covered in cooler reviews...or even mobo reviews come to think of it - if a board has huge sinks it should be pointed out. |
