Good Surround sound gaming headset

While Ive always enjoyed my gaming, I am yet to find a headset that meets my expectations, I have linked the best ones I found here, anyone used any of these? Please mention any pros or cons.

Logitech G35 <-- I quite like this one
http://www.logitech.com/index.cfm/we.../5095&cl=us,en

Razer Megaladon
http://www.razerzone.com/gaming-audio/razer-megalodon/

Roccat Kave
http://www.roccat.org/Products/Gamin...d/ROCCAT-Kave/

Plantronics GameCom 777
http://www.plantronics.com/north_ame...ts/gamecom-777

Zalman ZM-RS6F
http://www.zalman.co.kr/ENG/product/...ad.asp?idx=213

Psyko 5.1 Gaming Headset
http://www.psykoaudio.com/index.php/...1-Headset.html

If anyone else have some idea please feel free to link, but I do need a headset with a microphone, I also find wireless headphones more trouble and money than they are worth, as for USB vs audio jack, Im not too fussed tbh, whichever sounds better.

I dont mind spending more money on this cause I will be keeping it for a long time, but if I do I dont want to mess up and buy something I will regret getting.

go for some Sennheiser HD555s. They have an amazing sound, are open backed and just as good positionally as any of these so called '5.1' headsets. In general, pay for 2 good quality drivers than 5 in each ear.

+1 for HD555, but be aware they do not have a Mic atached if you were to require one

Just get a zalman clip on mic, they are fine for the price. Only problem is they are quite hard to find in the UK. If you see one, drop the link here

My Sony headphones just packed up, so I'm buying myself some HD555s after seeing the reviews about them.

I game more than I watch movies, and I do like the surround sound when gaming, I take it the surround sound the HD555s have is an effect and not reall Surround sound

i'd question the notion that you achieve real surround sound with headphones...but coming at it from a different angle, sennheiser make the best quality headphones for audio reproduction, so transferring that to a gaming environment may have a similar outcome. just a thought

Well I know the prinicple of surround sound in a headset, like for most of the ones I linked, they use software to guess how far appart you ears are and delay sound between the two so u hear one side a fraction of a second before the other ( giving u sterio), it gets more complicated when u have 3 speakers in each earcup.

But there is another side of surround sound and that in the frequency ur ear hears the sound if a sound comes from behind u there is a slight and slightly unique (due to the shape of each persons ear) frequency difference. This is the part that is hard to simulate using software and drivers and I think the only headset which overcomes this is the Psyko.

Sry for the wall of txt.

but I think we are pretty much agreed that;

Best Sound Quality it has to be the
Sennheiser

for affordable surround sound the
Logitech G35

and for "true" surround sound its the
Pskyo <-- in theory, never heard from anyone who has used a set of these so I dont know for sure.

That a fair roundup?

I have a pair of Sennheiser PC 350's and oh good lord the quality out of them
They may only be stereo, but I found directionality in gaming to be extremely good. CoD4 even worked well with them, being able to track people with the sound in whatever direction.

Pricey, comfortable, boom mic, full-ear, in-line volume control, fantastic in my opinion.

+ 1, tried 2 different 5.1 headsets : Razor Barracuda and Speedlink Medusa

The Barracuda had good bass, but a crap mic and the Medusa was ok, nice 5.1 sound on blu-ray films in PowerDVD, but i managed to break them. Invested in the Sennheiser PC350's a few months back. Excellent sound quality and great build quality. I don't really miss the 5.1 headsets.

Being using the G35 for a few months now and I wouldn't swap for anything at the moment and they are very comfortable.
Very easy to personalize and in game very very good.

+1 for the PC-350s. They are a bit pricey but absolutely superb. The positional sound is extremely good especially with an X-Fi card.

I had a Barracuda but it broke constantly, very bad build quality. I have to say the G35 is looking very nice.

If you want good quality 5.1 headphones with options for either analogue or USB go for a set of Speed-Link Medusa headphones.

Well, the headphones are great, sound is good, positioning from the drivers, etc.

I won't lie, there is one problem:

The mic can rotate to a vertical position, this will cause the cables inside the rotating housing to come loose over time. It is easy to fix and requires some extra length of cable to ensure it doesn't happen again. It is very easy to do.

Despite this problem I am very fond of the headphones and so are other people. We have four sets, my fiancée, her brother, my brother and myself all have a set each.
