Cooking Bacon with an AMD Athlon

Me and my mate decided to put an old athlon to good use - bacon!

The cooker

No need for this anymore!

Fan officially retired

Health and safety would have a field day!

The mobo, complete with ridiculous amount of PCI slots....

Bacon. mmm......

Just a bit greasy. Not the best TIM im sure

Quite cooked, a bit crispy as well!

The aftermath. Slight discolouration in places, we suspect the fat might have short circuited it, or when we moved the bacon it ripped off a bit of the processor with its fatty glue

Damn you must've been bored. Next time (if there is one) I would suggest fashoning some sort of rudimentary frying pan and putting it on there with a bit of TIM. It'll contain the fat, cook it more evenly and possibly stop the proc from dying.

However we can clearly conclude that bacon may well make quite a good heatsink as i seem to remember a video of an athlon exploding when the heatsink was removed.

But +rep for even thinking about it

slightly spicey brown stuff that u have with a proper breakfast: i.e. back bacon (not streaky), sausages, two eggs, mushrooms, black pudding, baked beans and not a drop of maple syrup in sight

edit: toast and a milky brew

Next time I visit London i'm going to try this so-called "Brown sauce" as well as the famed Branston Pickle relish that British folks love to talk about.

I think I remember a thread on another forums about a jar of marmite sent across the Atlantic to a US member who then posted his reaction to tasting it (along the lines of "Blugh, you people eat this stuff?!?"). It then got posted around the US to various members who posted their reactions too, all very similar, very funny.

Wrong again - that's the second most reprehensible substance known to man. Marmite is a close third.

What kind of forum is this? Are you all a bunch of masochists?

Brown sauce is ok but can't beat egg and bacon with tomato sauce. If anybody works on or near Fleet Street in London, I can recommend a very good place for it.

Do Athlons run very hot then? I'm contemplating sticking one in a machine for a friend (an Athlon II X4 620). Temp. wise, is a Phenom II X2 550 likely to be much cooler? (as a thankyou, best answer gets an egg and bacon roll or baguette, with sauce of their choice, bought by me (if you work on or near Fleet Street that is - soz to all others).
