Seems like a pointless green release, very very few benefits from running a 4xx card.
Let's hope the next revision gives ATI some competition, this one certainly hasn't.

True but how many people are interested in buying two 480 cards... only people with £1000 to spend on the Dell 30".

i'm disappointed and smug in equal measure... i wanted it to blow everything away, we haven't had a massive wow release in the graphics department for ages. On the other hand my 4870x2 looks more and more like a legendary buy with every release of a new card.

With eyefinity (when they have bezel-less screens) and the current top spot for most of the games i play, I finally know where my money should be heading.
Do you think this will affect previous models pricing drastically?

What a shame, I was hoping for so much more. :(

p.s. Any chance of a huge version of the Fermi core from the last page? 1024 isn't quite big enough for my background.

Nice one nvidia(!) I think ATI's release of the Catalyst 10.3 drivers really spoilt the party for Nvidia! I was hoping Fermi's release would bring about a price war. But if the 480 is going to be over £400 it doesn't look like ATI will be too bothered. I think ATI probably has more room to drop prices on the 5800 series as well. With Fermi yields rumour to be only around 50% I can't imagine the chips are cheap to make...

Well, I guess that settles all the "Red or Green graphics card?" questions in the Hardware forum.

Another site was looking at just over 13,000ppd however the card was sitting at 96c whilst folding. Temps are just crazy no matter what.

WHY 6/10 for features when ATI 5870 cards get 10/10 on features? i can't justify that difference.

I imagine because features includes the temperature and sound, as it can't fit in value or performance.

not really, actually not at all. The GTX 480 has only been expected to compete against the HD5870, in most tests it competed with the HD5970. For the first release of their new architecture I will say its quite impressive. Especially since they are using first generation drivers. With driver improvements things will definitely improve.

Yes, the more ATI centric games caused the GTX 480 some issues, the same can be said about the Nvidia centric games causing ATI issues. This is still some very nice performance improvements over the old 7xxx re-branding.

For someone like me who has a 9600GT, I'm very likely to by the GTX 480 since I use folding@home constantly and game.
