Kyrlin has yet to learn the way of the Dremel
I decided I'm getting this game so put in a pre-order, should be able to just scrape by with the PC I have if I set everything to low.
Gonna get a new PC to play it on anyway.

I watched a game play video between 2 esports guys on gametrailers and some of the new units look really good.

I'll probably play the single player first then get into the multiplayer once I have my new PC, that gives my friends some time to get a copy of it as well

Have any of you seen any really good gameplay footage?

I've been in the Beta since it started. If you liked Starcraft 1's gameplay then you'll love SC2's gameplay, simple as that.

I never got round to registering for the beta, and I've read the horror stories of people coming back 3-4 days after being away from the computer to as many as 12 new patches to download :S

I really enjoyed the gameplay of SC1 but then I also really enjoyed DoW1 as well, DoW2 isn't quite the same but then I've not played it for quite a few patches now so it might have changed again.

Well I'm hoping Blizzard don't disapoint me and I'm very glad to see that SC2 wasn't vapourware like Duke Nukem Forever :P

That's just the nature of a beta. I'd be more concerned if there weren't lots of patches happening!
Patching Blizzard games tends to be a fairly painless process most of the time anyway.

Blizzard are like Valve in that they release games on their own schedule rather than rushing things out.
SC2 so far doesn't feel rushed (unless the campaign is shorter than they promise) so it doesn't seem as though Bobby Kotick has ripped that aspect out of Blizzard yet.

Blizzard seem to be pushing user-created content and modding big-time with SC2 and the engine is incredibly flexible. Just look for some SC2 Beta mods on youtube to see footage of the kinds of things people are doing with it.
You can safely assume the game will be flooded with user-created maps and mods on the day of release.

http://www.sc2mapster.com/ has a ton of user created maps. The engine is quite strong so you can do lots of things including but not limited to :

FPS's
Side scrolling beat em ups
top down shooters (think 80's 90's arcade games)
Mario Kart clones
DOTA style games
and a lot more.

Some people have even done tetris http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4dMVFuIb8zk

A few other examples
Flow type game: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TWXtq8mkYg8
Final Fantasy type RPG fight: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Vjuf7DELz9s
FPS: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_ant4Wfc4b0
Metal Slug Remake: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oAvZlonNTDg
Chess: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ly2vw6wyeHw
Mario kart type game; http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fFbFCTziw2

I've got this on pre-order for tomorrow and as excited as I am about the single player and multiplayer, I know the custom maps will be a source of constant amusement after I finish the single player and get too frustrated with the multi.

I think I'll be buying this when it hits the shelves.

I played the Beta, it was great, so this is definitely a game on my "To get" list.

Installed it, patched it, registered it, launched it, didn't play it cause was too late last nite (came from the midnight launch), been the longest morning of my life!

I know that this is not the first time blizzard has done this, but I'm sure that I was not the only one cheesed off that they just used the old video of the marine getting welded into his suit as the intro clip, with some extra (very corny) voice snippets

/2cents

hmmm.... 38 minutes till lunch break.....

What was it like at the London launch mate? I would have gone if not for work. I attended the London midnight launch of the first WoW expansion and that was quite good, great turnout and it was nice having the Blizzard devs talking to the crowd and getting a signed copy. Anyone fancy teasing me about what the game is like while I'm stuck at work?

I might wait a bit before buying Starcraft II : Episode 1.
Prices and reviews, and region locking and stuff.
Still, I want to see the cutscenes...and the story.

I'm hoping that within a few months, we will see some SC2 versions of the popular WC3 custom maps. SC2 DotA would be awesome, as would Enfo TS, Wintermaul, Legion TD, Battleships Pro, Island Defense, Preschool Tech Warz, and others.

My primary motivation behind pre-ordering was to be able to make my account and get it set up, and then get on StarEdit2. I am friends with a couple WC3 mappers, and we're hoping to get out an AoS by early fall, essentially an improved version of a WC3 AoS we always play.

WorldEdit was such a more powerful tool than StarEdit, so it took some time for WC3 mappers to learn the new functionality. I believe that many of the same features are carried over to SC2, so as a result we will probably see maps as good as the current WC3 custom maps appear by the end of the year.

I'll probably dabble in Singleplayer and see how the plot goes. I never finished Brood War (I think stopped playing around when the Protoss with the Dark Templars went to a new planet or something halfway through Brood War, because I got more interested in MP). I'll probably play MP somewhat as well, especially if custom melee MP maps come out. I really liked the Micro Spiral type maps (having 8 players on the minimum size map, unlimited mineral stacks and unlimited vespene geysers, no expansion or exploration, just a lot of combat).

Unfourtunately, the idiots at EBGames waited until 4:26PM EST last evening to ship out my pre-order copy, so I won't get it on release date. I'm pretty annoyed about that. I ordered it 11 weeks in advance, they should have been able to coordinate shipping for it to arrive on release day. And it's not even like they sent it on Thursday with 4-day shipping that ended up taking 5 days or something else that's not predictable. If you send it out at 4:26 in the afternoon, the only way it is arriving the next day is if you are only sending it <100 miles, or you get overnight shipping, and they did neither. it's coming >1000 miles, with standard shipping. Thanks, jerks.

Well, I just got through about 3 missions in the campaign on Brutal difficulty and it's fun. To get some achievements I've had to scale back the difficulty to hard or normal, and the biggest thing I noticed was how different the AI really was on less-than-brutal difficulty.

In one mission, the only units available to you are marines and medics going against an enemy Terran base; on brutal, they attack fast with upgraded marines, and every squad of marines you meet has a medic or two attached. They attack with hellions even before the game warns you that they're attacking with hellions, then they do it again. Inside their base, there's a siege tank which isn't present in any other difficulty. When I dropped that down to hard, enemy medics disappeared, half as many hellions showed up, they had no upgrades, no siege tank, and no micro - one time on brutal I was focus-firing a medic and the AI pulled her back to bring my medics in range of their marines. Other missions are similar; brutal is so damn hard compared to hard.

One other thing I'd like to mention: in your ship's cantina, there's an incredibly corny shoot-em-up arcade game called LOST VIKING which I found rather enjoyable. Play it when you get the chance.

Just had a fantastic game. 2v2 on the practice league, and I was virtually dead and out the game and my ally left. My last throw of the dice was to ultralisk drop my enemies with overlords and I ended up winning when I was dead for sure!
