Looks like a promising product! It's a shame they had to use Atom, but then you wouldn't want anything as fast as a normal PC... would you?

Sounds like Mr. Asus was pretty honest about what it can and can't do.

Exactly what I thought: I get furious when I see some of the things companies get away with patenting - patent law is outrageous!

    Anyway...

I love the look of this thing. I'm not sure if the keys look as if they would be comfortable for doing too much typing on, but as a concept I think it's brilliant.

I agree with the patent comments. It's similar to how a menu hierarchy can be patented too; which is equally ridiculous.

Nevertheless, I've always been interested in this product and the fact that it comes with Ultra wideband is a blessing. I mean, a computer with no cables the size of a keyboard? I'm in!

I probably won't buy one, but I love that they're mad enough to make them.

Looks good, but I don't think this will be that affordable if/when it comes out over here.

"Asus Eee Keyboard PC (yes, the full name includes "PC") has to be one of the most innovative" you know other companies have already similar products on the market and pretty much beat ASUS to the punch so no its not really all that innovated. Still cool though. :)

Also stating that an ION would have been a better choice or at least hinting at it would be a HELL NO, we dont want to lose half our battery life and for what minimal gaming experience at best please... no the ION would have certainly been a bad choice for this. There was mention of 720p but I dont think I saw anything on 1080, does that exceed the wireless requirements?

Yeah, 720p is all the wireless display can do.

Don't see the attraction of that to be honest. What's wrong with having a plain good HTPC that you can put alongside the tv.

You can look at anything and decree it to be useless.

Netbook - only slightly smaller or cheaper than a normal laptop, whilst being slower
Premium pc - much more expensive, yet not much faster than a normal pc
Macbook Air - only slightly smaller than the normal Macbook, yet much more expensive
Android - less apps than iphone, most phones do most parts slightly worse
Stradivarius - only sounds slightly better than far cheaper instruments
iPad - netbooks do everything and more
Mac Mini - much worse value than just about every computer

Does that make them useless products? No! Just because you personally don't see a use for an eee board doesn't mean that others won't. It's a genuinely cool product - think of it replacing the eee box rather than the eee pc.

For the market they're aiming for an Atom processor is sufficient. OK, so the majority of us here would prefer quad core at the least, 3+ GHz, an upgradeable GPU, more RAM and, essentially, some bitchin' performance but it's not really aimed at us. If I didn't already have systems that cover what this wee beasty offers then I'd consider it. I do so I won't.

I've not tried it on 1080P video yet but I have an N450 netbook with built in Broadcom Crystal HD decoder (Samsung N220, UK version) which handles 720P just fine. I was seriously considering the ION equivalent but basically I don't need the graphics that much and the battery life really sucks in comparison.

What they're offering looks nice but it's very much a niche market and enthusiasts need not apply (we've probably already done better with the HTPC or spare system).

What happens when all the gestures have been patented?

Anyway, I've been waiting ages to see what happens with this product. Great idea, although I would never own one. A wireless keyboard with intergrated touchpad and a HTPC almost has the entire functionality (minus 2nd screen) and can be much more powerful and do full HD etc.

A really good article, nice to see such an open and honest interview.
