I've decided that I'm bored with my 260 GTX SLI rig and it isn't providing the juice for 1920x1200 gaming at max settings, and I'd like to go with a 460 GTX SLI rig, as the benchmarks are excellent (20 - 25% faster than 480 GTX). Being as the resolution I'm playing at, I'm thinking the 1GB model is the way to go. Should I go for http://www.scan.co.uk/Products/1GB-...der-Clock-1350MHz-336-Cores-2x-DL-DVI-I-mHDMI - reference model, or http://www.scan.co.uk/Products/1GB-...700MHz-Shader-1400MHz-336Cores-DVI-D-Sub-HDMI - but I've heard that the Sonic is louder and hotter?
I have heard that about the Sonic as well but isn't there a BIOS upgrade that cures that? What is the warranty comparison between Inno3D and Palit? Does either stand out?
I'm not fussed about warranty as its rare my cards last a year before being sold on for new ones EDIT: Just checked and they are both 2 years.
I'm really not up for flashing BIOS on two brand new graphics cards and potentially bricking them. I'd much rather just get the Inno3D ones, get them setup and OC them.
if you ware to wait a bit long you can have much better make of 460 video card every one is waiting for the 1GB Gigabyte GTX 460 OC msi 460 twin frozr II MSI GeForce GTX 460 Cyclone OC 1024MB which are much better make of the 460 video cards . they just have not shipped them out yet i have had to return 2 palit 460 for different probles eg.( fan bearing) making the sceen flicker when the GPU was underload dvi mismatch i would wait a bit longer
I'm not keen on spending more on heavily overclocked cards when the consensus online is that most cards will overclock heavily and being an enthusiast I don't fancy paying a company to do it for me.
I'd also be very interested in your decision Ph4zed as I may be going down the same route as you with 2x 460 in SLI. I'm currently on a single 260 and was thinking about getting a 5870 vapor-x but a pair 460's look like a better bet seeing as a single overclocked 460 comes relatively close to stock 5870 performance.
I will be posting Crysis comparison benchmarks. I've not seen anything to disuade me from just buying the cheapest, the Inno3D.
Ph4zed, will you be keeping your current PSU in the set up? I have the 650W version and am wondering whether it will be able to cope with the 460 in SLI.
Yes I will be keeping the PSU. In the reviews I read, they said that the 460 GTX consumes around 30W less than the 260 GTX.
the gigabyte card is only £6 more than the palit card .(when it comes in stock) ok you do not want it overclocked but you are going to get a much better cooler on the video cards the 2 msi video cards are just pc hardware porn . by the sounds of it you are proud of what your pc can do . now be proud of what it would look like inside with 2 460s with nice GPU coolers on them
Already replacing my GTX 260?! If I were to do an SLI build with the rather spendid 460, I'd use this Zotac one. My reasoning is that this 'reference' cooler is much better at getting air out of the case.
it does look a little better too, though it does add an extra £50 to the purchase compared to the inno3d at £175 :/
I correct myself the Zotac can be found for £195 so it's not quite as much. I'd be interested in seeing a comparison between the different manufacturers for heat and noise levels to really finalise my decision.
http://www.scan.co.uk/Products/1GB-...-Clock-1350MHz-336-Cores-2x-DL-DVI-I-MiniHDMI EVGA 1GB model for £170, I think we have a winner... Will post pictures and benchies when they arrive!
