    Project Serpentine

Oh Joy, a brand spanking new project jumps to life thanks to the export functions of Autocad. This will eventually be a very tall watercooled acrylic case with green accents here and there and lighting to suit. Most of the watercooling will be integrated and I did happen to break the bank by getting a few sheets of 10mm thick clear acrylic, that stuff is AWESOME, I have had alot of fun with it in the past

    Much fun.

    Planning:
I prefer planning with pen and paper but I did have my hand at sketchup to formulate my idea's (But eventually went back to pen and paper....).

The basic premise is to have the backplate of the computer act as the spine, the main support. This means that it would have to be thick, 12mm thick in fact and all the other components would route around it and hang off it like a christmas tree.

Next up was the design of that spine, originally there was meant to be two radiators down the bottom but as time went on, it made more sense to arrange the two r360's in a way that gave the components some airflow. A cross flow bottom rad and a front panel rad would provide ample airflow into the case.

The entire frame would consist of these panels and the removable panels would eventually go on top.

    Cutting:

The acrylic panels came in, 6mm thick and 6*800*600 sheets, plenty for the task ahead.

This was just one of the 6mm spine panels, took a while to go through acrylic that thick. Had to slow the machine down to 1000mm a minute with 2mm passes. Even then, it took an hour and a half.

THBUZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZ (almost like the worldcup :p )

First one down, one more to go.

I wanted to do a lot of plastic bending with some kind of accuracy and straightness so I put together this seemingly dangerous looking contraption.

    Totally safe....

I cant remember the amount of times I've pricked myself with these engraving bits, maybe I am just careless.

    Side by side, aww

There are two of these air vents top and bottom, they will get some polishing love later when the glue has dried.

Plenty of updates to come. *muwahahhaahahaha*

We all have to start somewhere, I did the same thing(maybe with a little more detail:D) for a while and I only recently learned how to use google sketchup.

Yup that is a fact. :thumb:

But I can't wait to see more of this mod.

    What a day :)

Caught Kal Cow on an early morning graze, the grass was particularly green.

Oh my...he didnt even see the CNC coming....

    STEAK!

The tube reducer was a hugely messy affair...

Due to some retarded designer (me), the green part will need to be rethought. I can't get the fittings to fit, I will need to cut out a work around.

When the glue dries its time for a leak test and polish *shine shine*

Sneak peak on the res...More on this later :)

I had to put this project on hold as I actually sold my CNC and bought a new one, call it an upgrade :p I got sick of attaching things to the table with double sided tape and so the newer model now has a vaccuum hold down system.

Design is getting there but in the meantime I have been doing all that I can during my machine-less stage. It took 12 clamps and over 300mls of bonding agent, now...it is a single acrylic piece, 12mm thick.

This is the main support for the computer, its the midplate for the entire build. As you can see, its going to be massive, plenty of room :)
