Baetucious has yet to learn the way of the Dremel
Pins on my 1366 motherboard are not aligned? Help!

I have just bought all the hardware to build a new PC from Scan. After opening my Motherboard (A gigabyte X58A UD3R rev 2), and taking off the protective hard peice of plastic which covers where the CPU goes, I immediatly noticed that three pins are slightly bent.

I tried placing my CPU (a i7 930) on top, and it seemed to wobble around a little, and the latch would not sit confortably on top of it, in fact, the latch is actually quite a bit higher than it should be.

I do have scansure, so if this is really bad I will have to contact them to get it fixed, but I'm just asking with one final hope that this may be fixable or normal?

Any ideas guys? Thanks a bunch,

Bill.

It should take a little bit of pressure to lock in the cpu. I would get the system built and see what happens.

If you are really concerned give Scan a call.

Mabe take a pic of the socket and email it to scan.

Dont try to fix it yourself.

You noticed that 3 Pins are bent on the CPU? Or something on the MB is bent?

Every computer that i have put together after you raise the latch the CPU should drop right in no resistance or fuss just drop right in. If there are pins bent on the CPU I personally would send it back no telling what happened prior to you receiving the CPU. i.e. it was dropped/mis-handled somewhere. But that's just my personal thinking if its not 100% right especially something that important i would send it back instead of taking the chance of something going wrong later and someone claiming that you bent the pins.

He's tslking about LGA sockets, so the pins are on the motherboard... I'd RMA the **** out of it personally...

LOL you dont have pins on a i7 they are in the socket which is what the OP is saying looks bent.

Phone Scan mate, Remember if you RMA it and there's nothing wrong you will be charged a fee.

Scansure or no Scansure, if the motherboard arrived with broken pins I'd be sending it back straight away...
