A small temperature update, I tested the setup in horizontal (laying down) position with the heatsink facing upwards. This way the temperature got around 10°C higer. CPU was around 65°C and GPU at 61°C. So.. it's nice to see that the planned vertical setup is still the most effective for this build.

Yeah Im familiar with that, and I was pretty shure It wouldn't improve the cooling. It's just that I got a suggestion to test it horizontal aswell. And actually..sometimes a vertical heatsink isn't always the best it's dependent of the angle and height of the fins. And there's no better way to know than trying

thanks, I have to say I'm more than pleased with the temps aswell since I was kind of making a guess about the size needed. Didn't know much about heatoutput and such,

Haha thanks, MacGyver is my alltime hero and will so bee. I was actually choosing between cooking oil and fertilizer but went with the oil because of some minor advantages

BTW... there's a rather inexpensive passive cooled case available now -> http://www.htpcreviews.org/impactics...assive-cooling

For those not having the possibilities to build something like this themselves.

Well you can bet that I'm tempted, Im actually thinking of making some changes to ProtoHype to incorporate some heatpipes there aswell. I simply love heatpipes after working with them on this build.

np at all. I have browsed through quite a lot of those passive cases while gathering information and brainstorming about this project. Some of those cases are really nice.

Yeah the machines help alot but I still wish sometimes that I had acess to a CNC. Making parts with manual mills takes forever and there is always the risk of destroying the part totaly by turning the axis wheels a bit to much. But I guess that's why there is such a nice feeling when holding the finished piece knowing you didn't screw up.
