Room temp? Poor air flow in case?

Lots of cables in the way, low fan speed, temp being raised by CPU running hot...

    Could be anything.

What's the GFX fan speed? And why would you even care about the idle temperature if it's stable under load?

About 70 in house, no cables in the way that would be in a way. Temperature right now maintaining 50~51. Is that normal? Fan is set on defult, auto. Should I bump it up?

So what are the temps like with the side off the case?

Hang on, So your GPU is running at 50c and your room temp is 70c? (Is that even possible?)

No it is not possible and he probably means 70 F... Or maybe not.

But personally I really don't care about the idle speed. How hot it gets under load? I'm betting 75 C-thereabouts as that's what the fan controller tends to aim for. I'm not really sure how the idle fan speed/temperature is decided, does the fan always spin down to 25% when idling or something..

For reference a HD6870 on my open-air test bench idles at 35 C with the fan spinning at 990 RPM.

Mine idles at 46 degrees, or at least it is right now. If you have an overclock applied it might be interrupting powerplay (is it still called that?) and preventing the card from down-clocking when idle. If enable ATI overdrive with the sliders at stock 900/1025 the card sits at 710/1025 at idle, for some reason, with temperatures of about 58 degrees.

Without overdrive enabled the card scales back to 100/300, which allows for lower idle temps and less fan noise.

If you ran a bench mark, you might as well have told us the settings and score, not just the temperature :D

I was goin to upload the picture on bit-tech for you guys, but the truth being told I don't know how to. Heaven V2.1 FPS:28.1 Scores:709 Min FPS: 3.5 Max FPS:60.0. Settings 1920x1080, Shader/Texture High Anisotropy 4x. Is this benchmark any good for this card?

As I have exactly the same card as you, I'll download the benchmark now and give it a whirl.

    Right, my benchmark results with the same settings as Siwini used;

    Score: 836
    Average FPS: 33.2
    Minimum FPS: 22.5
    Maximum FPS 60

I'd say you have some sort of issue there, Siwini, as we have identical GPUs yet your minimum FPS is way below mine. What are the specs for the rest of your system?

edit: even with the settings maxed (16xAF, 8xAA) I get a minimum of 14fps.

It might not be broken you need to look more into it. Have you tried different drivers? (they control the fan speed and the performance)

Definitely something wrong then as you have a much faster CPU than me, more RAM that is also faster and an SSD which I don't have. There must be a reason I'm getting better performance but I wouldn't jump the gun just yet if I were you. Have you got the latest drivers from AMD? I think the ones that came on the disc with my GPU are already outdated. Also look into viruses/malware and any background processes that shouldn't really be running. I can't imagine any of them would have such a dramatic effect on your minimum frame rate but anything's possible I suppose.
