Problems with a new Samsung F4 2tb
I recently bought a Samsung F4 2tb drive, and before I started moving serious amounts of data across to it, I thought I would run ES-Tool to check everything is healthy.
I was disappointed and surprised to see that there was an error detected. I am wondering what the chance are that this could be a false alarm. This is the report from ES-Tool: Total Loop Number 1/1 [Notice] Errors was detected in this Test!!! It’s recommended to do Erase HDD! (All Data Will be lost! You must backup before running erase HDD) Then run this Test programme again. If errors still happen, please consult to service centre. Read DMA: Pass Check S.M.A.R.T: Pass Spin Down/UP: Pass Write Verify: Pass Random Surface Scan: Pass RAM verify Test: Testing ..........- Busy Not Clear Multiple Read Test: Testing Pass Service Code => AJ41: RAM Error Total Elapsed Time: 05:51:33 I am going to follow the suggestions -> move all my data off it -> perform Erase HDD and run the scan again. I am wondering whether there is any likelihood the second scan will be ok?

It could possibly an error with the file system in which case it could be ok, even if it has to mark a few bad sectors off. On the other hand it could be a physical error on the hardware itself.
Either way the only way to find out is try it and see...

It happens... HDD can break just by transportation...
I would RMA it or perform a store exchanged.

What exactly is meant by "erase hdd". I.e specifically what is it samsung intend me to do here.
I had assumed that this was going to be one of the menu options in es-tool but it is not. There is a low level format option in the menu, but if they wanted me to do that presumably they would have used the same term.

I have ran the es-tool diagnostic a few times subsequently and the drive has passed without any problems.
How likely is it that the errors detected first time around were a false alarm? I never performed "erase hdd" - not knowing what was intended. I did however move ~100gb of data off the drive prior to running the subsequent tests. I can't see how this would have any bearing on a ram test though?

Ok - it has just failed the diagnostic again.
Last night I ran the diagnostic a couple of times, but skipped the full surface scan, and it passed the ram Verify test fine. I then set it up to do the diagnostic test with a full surface scan. This was what I had done when it failed initially. And once again the drive failed the test with the same error code. I can see any logic in this - how would a full surface scan affect the ram verify test?

What do you mean by ram test? looking at the es-tool download page I can't see any reference to any ram test in the text or pictures.

If you look in the first post - I am referring to the ram verify test.
It is the final stage of the diagnostic.

Have you tried the windows ram test or prime95 blend to see if your ram is fully stable?

I am presuming that this "ram verify" test is not actually tasting my main ram modules, but is instead referring to the hd's cache.
I can't see any reason es-tool would be testing my normal ram. It is a diagnostic tool solely for samsung hd's

neither would I but I would have thought they would've used the term cache, never hurts to double check I guess, maybe the cache is unreliable?

It seems that the problem may lie with the version of ES-Tool I am using.
http://forums.overclockers.com.au/sh...&postcount=176 I have downloaded version 3.01v and I am going to run a new diagnostic scan tonight, so fingers crossed.

Just an update - the drive passed th diagnostic fine with 3.01v, therefore it seems the problem was es-tool giving false positives.
