    In response to my "home GPUs for the win"-comment I wold like to add that I just finished building my self made 6 transistor GPU. I'm playing Crysis at the moment with 0.005 FPS.

    That's 0.00083 Frames/Second/Transistor.
    A GTX580 has 3 Billion transistors, taking that as 3*10^9, if you scaled your graphics card up to that size you'd be getting 2.5 million FPS ;)

    Hey quick question, what card is featured in the picture on this article. It looks quite hefty and I don't see a fan on there. That a passively cooled GPU? A recent model perhaps?

    I thought so too but then I went to the last page of Bit-Tech's GTX580 review and it shows the card with no cover but the heatsink and fan setup is different than the one in that photo. . . it puzzles me

    I have mostly been an Nvidia gpu person (with some ATI excursions along the way) since owning the geforce 256 (prvioius to that was s3 virge, PowerVR, 16mb rendition, 16mb banshee moved through, Geforce 2, Geforce 4000 series (3 models), the 5800 (started watercooling and overclocking - benchmarking), 5950, 6800GT (+sli), 6800ultra, 7800 (sli) 7900 (sli), 8800ultra, 9800gx2, gtx280 and just ordered the gtx570 - during this time I tried radeon 7000 series (my first ever ebay purchase),3d rage maxx (dual gpu single card, horrible drivers), AiW8500 (hot hot hot!!) X800, 3850 and 3850x2, none of which I really felt happy with - Radeon cards were not bad, just that we never really gelled - So never say never to Radeon cards and gpu competition is good for consumer choice.

    So it's not surprising that Nvidia shipped so many gpu's over such a short period of time when my own gpu ratio NV Vs ATI is greater than 3-1 in favour of nvida.
