I loved this game so much I had to uninstall it to avoid playing it. It's too easy to win though. I played 20 years and had a string of never failing sequels and more money than I knew what to do with.

I too am trying to stay true to the PC, and thought that a classic pirate game would be the perfect start. A ninja/pirate game was a little bit more successful, but mainly all my games have been flops and I haven't been able to afford the likes of Senga and Intendro.

Still it's been about a month since I last played the game, I might reinvest in it on the train journey home from work, and probably, like you end up selling my soul to the consoles!

Of course you should, the game is engineered so that only consoles make you money.

Just remake: Halo, Game Dev Story, Civilisation, The Sims, Love Plus, COD and Monster Hunter and you'll be swimming in cash.

It got boring once all of my games ended up being 'hall of fame' and #1.. Can't wait for the sequel though.

to get hardware engineer, you need to have someone at level 5 of everything, then change career to hardware engineer. you can't employ them through job hunt.

first playthrough got the console out at 19th year. didn't make much money off it.
2nd playthrough, got the console out at 12th year, and ended 500,000k the most important part is to build a console as soon as possible, then only develop for your own console.

and as for which console to pick at the start. Gameboy is the best one, it stays on market for so long. i basically only developed for PC first few games until Gameboy come out, develop for that for a long time until i can build my own console, then it's plain sailing from there on.

I went PC -> NES -> Gameboy -> SNES -> PC -> PS2 -> My console

Wuyanxu is right about how to get hardware engineers, you can't hire them. It helps to find someone with a low low low salary to start with though. My hardware engineer ended up with a salary of 25 million dollars..

my hardware engineer is MisterX, salary 1539k after all the levelling up. he's good because he started with 3 level 5 skills already.

if only hardware engineer in real life are so hard to come by, and get paid so well...... im a hardware engineer, and only get about 1/60th of that.

You can employ the Monkey, who is a hardware engineer.

Incidentally, you definatley can make lots of cash from PC games. The production costs are so low, that after establishing yourself on the consoles, you can return to PC and churn out great games. Ok, they'll only sell 4-8 million units, but the dev cost is 50k!

I managed to play through the first 20 years without firing anyone and only working with the employees I had. There is no need to waste lots of money trying to find good staff when you can make your staff good yourself. Salaries get stupid when you have a few hackers and a few hardware engineers, I played on to year 30 and if I wasn't making at least two #1 games a year I was losing money.

I agree. I produced a very successful series of realistic hunting simulations on the PC, each turning a great profit, which I used to finance top staff acquisitions and console development kits.

But when I was set up, there was no need to stick with the PC. It's market share is diluted to the point where it's not worthwhile supporting. Instead I produced a few big series mimicking Civilization, Final Fantasy and Ninja Gaiden, which made me filthy rich.

If a sequel is on the cards, I'd like to see options for producing multi-format games, and for your big releases having the power to significantly boost the market share of your selected platform, so that you have the power to make the PC more popular by making great games for it.
