Internet Broken

My internet connection is completely broken so no folding until ShoutShout have got it fixed

Could be some time as they are currently cannot locate the problem and won't call in BT at present. (Router won't even sync).

Currently baby sitting at my daughters hence my post.

Hope to be back folding ASAP, it's very frustrating

Ours was broken recently and VM guy said ours was the 3rd cable modem he had replaced within a stones throw that morning. I think it then dawned on him it WASN'T the modems, but the green box along the street Anyway, I got a new modem out of it ....

Well done you! - I just wish my ISP had listened to what I was saying rather than just slavishly following their prompt cards or whatever they do! - router still up though, so fingers crossed that whatever they eventually did in the exchange keeps working and my folding can return to normal.

I think all ISP's the same ... I'm currently stuck in an ongoing battle with BT over my broadband speed. Every time I speak to someone new I have to start again from square one "Is the router plugged in ... are the lights on etc", I feel like I'm stuck in BT Groundhog day.

One of them did say to me that they are not allowed think, they have to follow the process on the screen. Shame, its just wastes their time and mine.

At least mine works well enough to allow me to fold.

What a nightmare!!

I switched ISP's a couple of weeks ago, and everything was supposed to 'transition smoothly' - yeh right!! Problem, they thought, was with the modem they had supplied. I demonstrated that this was not the case. Once I'd got a senior technician on the case it turned out that their automatic setup process for the exchange hadn't worked, and things needed tweaking manually. Fortunately, it only took a few hours of an evening to remedy ....
Good thing about the switch is (a) download is 2.5x faster, (b) upload is 4x faster, (c) my family can access the internet at the same time as a WU upload (big result!), (d) no more WU upload queues and (e) the price is the same as the previous ISP = result.
Now I just need my Windows 7 PC's to behave (see thread), and I'm in business!!

My ISP Be Unlimited..
Just before Christmas my internet connection dropped from the usual 5-6 meg to 3 meg.
I raised a ticket which was answered within a day, they did a line test, monitored my line for 24hrs, sent me a new router, changed the cable pairs at my exchanged, finally a BT Engineer came round and fixed it, now syncing @ 8 meg, better than ever whole process was done within 2 weeks during Christmas/new year period. Fanastic service, highly recommend if anyone is looking to switch.

.....and upload is 1.3 meg, 10-15 mins to up a bigadv result.

If you're concerned about bigadv work return delays I recommend using Langouste to decouple the upload in order to begin work on a new unit immediately. A quicker upload speed will still secure greater maximum points of course...

I'm getting an FTC/VDSL service installed a week Monday.

What?! They're making you pay for them to move their butts to fix the problem and deliver the services they agreed upon by signing the contract? Is it your fault their connection isn't working? No. Demand a return of your money for the period your Internet was down and/or change ISP.

Noise and poor broadband issues can be linked - usually a poor connection or water in the BT cabinet!

BT have fixed the noise on the line so I have a crackle free phone - nice - but no broadband at all

They have discovered that a piece of cable about 200M long is defective and needs to be replaced which could take some weeks.

Apparently contractors will do the work as it involves an overground and underground section with road closures and disruption to a number of households in the village - Oh Happy Days !!

So guys, no folding until it's fixed, but I will make up the lost points ASAP.

Thanks to my daughter for the lone of her internet connection again.

Hope to be back with you soon.
