I like the damage as it is,the only problem i have is being killed behind a rock/wall but its a beta so they should fix it.

I was very happy with the Beta damage model, so kind of a shame to see it changed, but it does allow for the Normal and Hardcore modes to be more practical.

Then again, they could have just kept the damage model and allowed for tweaking of the HUD and a few other things.

We'll find out in 2 weeks

So long as my shotty detroys people at close range and they maintain the bullet drop, I'm happy.

reading the article Tom posted closely, i like it.

this is a game people, 4 bullets to kill is normal. even in BF2, it will take ~4 bullets to kill. only difference is the recoil and hit-reg made people THINK they've got a hit. eg, M16A2 in BFBC2, out of the 3 burst, only 1 would hit with hit-reg marker span across the whole burst, then people would blame the damage model/hit reg.

BFBC2's hit-reg is pretty awful, BF3's so far, seems solid. so hopefully this tweaked system will be the perfect middle ground.

The Hit reg in BF3 is good enough I think that a few more bullets shouldn't hurt.

Honestly the BFBC2 hit reg like Wyx said was utterly and terribly miserable.

BF3 AS VAL = BFBC2 VSS

The damage they used for the beta seems like hardcore in BFBC2, so just tone it down and call it softcore. Easy peasy lemon squeezy.

no no no no no

WHY do you need 2 modes in the first place?

BF2 damage model is great. BF2142 is good. BC2 sucks. BF3 BETA is great. (of course all the CoD 13-yr old/25+yr-old-still-living-in-moms-basement disagree with me)
why change? tone it, sure. change? NO!

no HC mode in BF2, and its great. no HC mode in BF2142. theres HC in BC2. and no HC in BF3 BETA and its great.
why do you need to add it?????

i cant really point my finger on something, but i dont want a hardcore/softcore mode. If there is, i know i would be playing on HC mode, but knowing there's an easy mode out there is eating me away. and once i try it, its just going to ruin my experience and the whole game will screw up. communities will be divided and dev will have to split their resource to support both modes. complaints will come and adjustments will affect both modes.

why does BF3 needs to follow BC2's existence of "Hardcore Mode"?

stupid idea.

just have ONE mode the way the game is intended to play out, and let people who whine leave the game! tweak it so make the majority of players happy, sure. but dont try to cater to everyone.

this start to sound alot more like the whole existence of full fledge single-player campaign in BF3. What are you trying to do DICE? what is EA trying to make you do? compete with MW3? WHY? (rhetorical question. answer is always: money)
you try to compete and make people who likes offline single-player happy, but IT SUCKS (insert Kotaku's review of single-player here) and to make things worse, in turn, it made MP sucks coz ur resources got split on making crappy campaign. (no, pretty graphic is not enough. Have u seen Rage?)

hardcore mode........

"ooh look, im gonna filter my server list to Normal mode only coz im just a casual player and i only have few minutes in a day, so i cant really practice and have the reflex of more vets players, but i wanna enjoy the game too. so DICE have to support me too coz i paid $60 for the game and $1600 for the new PC to play it."

DICE: sure. we'll make everyone happy! or at least try to....
me: GO BUY ANOTHER F***IN GAME IF U CANT HANDLE THE BATTLEFIELD!

its a rant, i know. and im not expecting a DICE rep to show up here and say "oh ok, sorry, we'll fix it up for u" but i dont kno where else to vent know that battlelog forum is offline.

guess ill have to live with whatever comes out on the 25th.

i think i need to get my coffee.

i got this part. hit-reg is still screwed up but i know almost exactly how many bullets it will kill people since i always keep an eye on my own health when i got hit, and i rarely burst my shootings.

and 4-bullets is perfectly fine. my post said 2-3, maybe 4 bullets depending the ammo and where u get hit. awesome.
BF2 is like that too.

THEN WHY CHANGE IT? "ooh becoz all the hordes of CoD players are complaining damage needs to be reduced in the Feedback forum, it doesnt feel like CoD enough, and we want their money".

/slap DICE

DICE: "but its ok, we'll leave that settings too for HARDCORE mode and its uberawesomesauce fantastic! all u gotta do is pick the right server, hopefully theyr not all full, n find new friends there"

/bitchslap DICE

To be honest I think you're making far too much of a fuss about it than is really necessary. The simple fact is that there's a wide range of people interested in playing games like BF3 and they have differing skill levels. A 'one size fits all' approach is just a compromise which ends up making the game too easy for those at the higher end of the skill level and too difficult for those at the lower end. Including two difficulty modes (which are easily identifiable in the server browser) means you can produce gameplay which suits a wider variety of people than could ever be possible with one mode. As long as i'm enjoying the game i'm playing I really don't care what other people are upto or if the gameplay is easier for them. What really is the issue if someone else wants to play the game in a way that is more forgiving because they simply aren't as good at it as others?

Red Beaver, why are you so bothered that there are two different modes to play it in? Pick which one you like best and play that. They are catering for everyone, but nobodies forcing you to play either way, and as you say, if they don't like either, people can always whine and leave the game (see above for an example of this type of person)

While you're certainly entitled to rant about things like easy modes I have to say I find it a very peculiar thing to get worked up about. I play games for my own personal enjoyment/challenge so what anyone else does with their copy of the game has zero impact on me whatsoever. Someone completing a game using an easy mode doesn't detract from the enjoyment or challenge I derived from completing the same game on hard mode, nor would someone playing BF3 on a normal mode server detract from the enjoyment and challenge I'll find from playing on hardcore servers. I dunno, perhaps it's different for you but I really can't see how someone else's method of playing a game could have any more impact on your playing of the game than it could do on mine.

then we are different

it would detract from my enjoyment. a bit. not too much that i stop playing games altogether lol

example 1:
A: hey i just accomplished task X.
B: oh me too, but i did it without using feature Z.
A: ah i see. i did use that feature. its there and i couldnt do it like you do. good for you!
B: thanks!

example 2:
A: hey i just failed trying to do task X for the 3rd time in a row now. /sigh
B: ah i just finished it on my 5th attempt. go for it, you can do it too!
A: oh wow! i dont know if i can get it even in my 10th attempt LOL but thanks, i'll try again! Good job, btw!
B: thanks!

in my gaming experience, i would feel much more accomplished as #B in example 2 rather than example 1.
sure, i dont play games just to brag to others, so even if neither conversation ever happened, just knowing that I... did it. It's much more satisfying knowing that there's no easy way to accomplished the same thing. even if people DO recognize my method.

i dunno, maybe its some kind of fetish where i get a jizz from seeing other people fail. i find enjoyment in knowing everybody has to do it the HARD way and they should suffer. lol

oh, here's more: its a little like they kept making technologies even easier for human to think less, and it drives me nuts sometimes. like past weekend i was with some friends driving somewhere, and our GPS map died. and another guy's iPhone is dead, so no maps for us. and they were freaking out since we dont have a paper map either.
so i had to step up and plan... ok, lets make a pit stop somewhere, ask for direction, and find a payphone so we can call the other party saying we're lost and we might get late. no biggies.

"uh dude... thats so much trouble."

/rage

i think i know my issue: i'm just old skool.

Myself and Wuy have gone over the HC vs Normal mode thingy ad nauseum on this, so won't go into too much depth.

Most of us in ZiiP prefer to play a hardcore style (though we started in MoH and BF2 proper), where there is a minimalist HUD, or none at all, and that the teamwork relies more on squad comms and proper teamplay. We each know where the other person is beside us and know where we are going. Often just sit on a point and hold it. Several good memories of holding a capture point in Project Reality for an hour and a half in a single game denying the enemy to take it from us.

I liked the damage mode in the Beta, but if it's decreased, then it's Hardcore or nothing for me. Adds tension to it. Also, nothing like loosing off a belt of ammo on your support weapon and trying to keep track of how much ammo you have until you hear that most unwelcome of sounds.... *click*

To each their own.

These two weeks better go fast!

Since when is giving more options a bad thing?

BTW I switched from softcore to hardcore once I joined a clan who only had hardcore server. I HATED IT, for the first 2-3 weeks, then I got used to it. IMO it's a better player style, sniper suck cock in it but you really have to work as a team, if not you die.

BTW I switched from softcore to hardcore once I joined a clan who only had hardcore server. I HATED IT, for the first 2-3 weeks, then I got used to it. IMO it's a better player style, sniper suck cock in it but you really have to work as a team, if not you die.
I know there is a complete difference in play styles and people say FPS should be played on PC not console etc etc

I used to BC2 on console all the time, and only Hardcore, being new to FPS at the time I hated it, I sucked but after playing with some good teams and working on team work and starting a round in a team and working well together I enjoyed HC.

All I ever played was HC in any mode and whilst it took time to get used too I enjoyed it, so be it NM or HC I game to play!!!

It's better than MW noobs and spray and prayers any day!

one mode for new comers to BF one for people more proficient in the game.
one more casual one more serious.

its a non issue, flick the little option to HC and youll never even know the standard mode was there

im counting on it!!!!

again, im not against an easier mode. not knowing what hardcore mode will really play out, i might even like normal mode better.

its having an option that i have an issue with. im happy with BF3 BETA. they dont need to make it easier, label it normal, then create a totally new hardcore mode.

just as much as i have issue they have to put a single-player campaign in a battlefield game

but ill play them all just fine

2 weeks cant come soon enough. in the meantime, ill install warhammer40k.

I agree with Red Beaver on this one! Dont see the need for softcore / hardcore if the game is balance properly in the first place!

The community is already going to be divided by the different game modes :TDM, SDM, Rush and Conquest (for real men )

And on top of that they are planning hardcore / softcore in each of those game modes? Am i the only one that thinks that is getting abit ridiculous????

We'll all see how it pans out come release day!!!

You can't possibly balance the game properly for the entire range of skill levels that different players exhibit with one single mode. Attempting to do so is just likely to end up as a compromise aimed at the middle of the skill range which leaves people at the lower end finding the game too difficult and people at the high end finding the game too easy.

The inclusion of a hardcore mode doesn't turn normal mode into easymode. A lot of people are actually of the opinion that lower TTK (i.e. hardcore mode) requires less skill because you can even accidentally kill people and because they have basically no chance to retaliate once you start shooting.

The more options the better.
