BC2 had fantastic audio and it seems like BF3's taking that even further. The bassy notes from the music accompanying every single pin/award are going to get old pretty quickly though. In fact, they already have. I hope that doesn't make it into the final version.

I'm not sure how keen I am on the knife being an equippable weapon like that. I rather liked how you could just hit a hotkey to stab someone in BC2, but still had to take a big risk to do so because of the long swing/recovery time on it.

I noticed in one of the videos that the debris from a building appeared to kill someone. I was wondering if that would be the case and I think it'll make for some fun/infuriating tactical options in practice if that really works.

I don't think BF3 is going to be revolutionary - Seeing the alpha gameplay footage without EA's PR editing certainly makes it seem like more of an evolution of BC2 than the kind of MP FPS messiah that it's being hyped up to be.
That said, there's still plenty of time between now and the game going gold, so I'll be curious to see what other changes make it into the finished game.
Plus, an evolution of one of the best MP shooters of recent years is still no bad thing.

Considering this is not a follow-on from BC2 more so from Battlefield 2, I am happy they have it. I think also having it as a weapon on it's own, people will need quick reflexes to switch between the weapons, so it might not be as common as it is in BC2 to knife an enemy.

That was essentially the point of my post though - BF3 appears to me to be an evolution of BC2, regardless of whether it's a BF game or a BC game. It has the hallmark features that make it a BF game (64 players, huge maps, etc) but the leaked footage is also extremely reminiscient of BC2 in a lot of ways; so I think BC2 comparisons are still completely apt.

And that's a lot of acronyms.

I agree that knifing is probably going to be less common in BF3, but as a matter of preference I think I'd still prefer the hotkey-knife of BC2; unless the equipped-knife can be used for more than just insta-kills.

From the feedback available from both E3 and general hands-on, the Paris Metro map is IO based with only the single LAV as armour available, so it would be more reminiscent of BC2 rather than BF2.

I like the equippable knife and the length of the kills. Having it as an inst-kill should be satisfying since you get to sneak around and choose your target rather than having a little shiv-match like in BF2.

The sound is beyond impressive. Hopefully simply turning the music volume down will suffice to stop it from getting repeditive. I think I turned off the music in BF2 after a week.

The sniping thus far seems to be terrible and the player seemed to forget that you have to hold your breath for an accurate shot in many instances. Also, his teamplay sucked eggs.

The videos look amazing. Graphically, aurally and environmentally. This is looking very very good.

The videos that are being released are part of a live alpha test (codes no longer available), so I would expect alot more. The black boxes are no doubt a work around or some form of NDA.

Look's a bit too much like BC2 for my liking, and as someone already said the noise from when you get dog tags/achievements etc is already annoying me from watching like 5 mins of footage. A lot of positives though, im looking forward to seeing more footage closer to release.

everyone saying it looks to much like BC2... well that because its using the same engine as BF3..

BC2 was pretty much a trail for the game engine for PC, they said this in PCgamer mag in the early leaks i posted in this thread on the first few pages.

They never counted BC2 to be the success it was, BF3 was still in production before BC2 was.. You could almost say the first frostbite engine we know in BC1/2 is just the alpha of what we will get in BF3.

Well, as one of the people saying that BF3 looks a lot like BC2, I'd like to make it clear that I'm not saying too much like BC2.
BC2 has given me dozens of hours of fun since the day of its release. The fact that BF3 includes so many elements of BC2 just tells me that even if the game doesn't live up to all this hype it's still going to be an excellent MP shooter.

In fact, the idea of "BF2 crossed with BC2" as a description for BF3 is what makes me excited for this game, given how amazing BC2 has been for months.
The only reason I brought it up in my own post is that it just struck me that as good as it looks, BF3 hasn't moved on from BC2 that much at this point when looking at the raw gameplay footage without fancy editing.
