I like both Standard and HC, I prefer HC for sniping however, the whole bolt actions taking 3 shots (sometimes) to the chest to kill is BS thats where hardcore prevails imo, bolt actions should be 1 hit kill to chest or head in any mode.

On BFBC2 all I played was HC, I couldnt stand normal on that mode as it just felt like all the guns were shooting frozen peas at the enemy (i played on 360) and all my friends playing it agreed we stuck to HC on BF3 however I still like HC now and then but mainly play standard as you all do :P

However it no longer feels like the guns do feck all damage in normal which is good.

I see what you did there!

You didn't state tournament you stated competitive gameplay. And if you find any HC Servers you will find that most of the players will play competitively and tactically whereas in SC players will run and gun for points rather than playing as a team!

There aren't any major tournaments in HC mode, the only competitions that are in HC mode are hosted by clans just for "fun"


TWL and other BF3 leagues use somewhat HC mode but not really. The rules are typically: 100% health, no regen, no 3d spoting but everything else is normal mode stuff ie you get hud and cross hairs



IMO HC is for snipers, campers and people who can't aim. My clan runs a HC server and I absolutely refuse to play on it because the mode is so turrable


edit: If I want a tactical game, I'll play ARMA. BF3 is an arcade shoot no matter how you look at it, it will NEVER be realistic

You know, I would actually be intrigued to see a hybrid design and how it works. Have normal health, even regen, but remove 3D spotting and the HUD elements like in hardcore. I'd seriously love to try it.

When I refer to competitive play I'm not referring to pub games; if that's the mindset you're approaching this from that's likely why you're a bit mixed up. Competitive gaming generally refers to 'competition' or 'tournament' play, rather than merely a competitive mindset. Again, you see more 'clans' (that scrim) playing normal mode than hardcore, but Beast and Willsy have already covered this.

That is actually one of the things I like about standard mode, however actually killing a sniper on standard mode is impossible due to the regenerating health

And yet it seems that true normal isn't used either. A hybrid of sorts. It's kind of surprising this isn't used more in public. Shame, really.

IMO if they didnt want recon to be effective with snipers in SC they shouldnt have added them tbh.. Back in BF2 IIRC bolt action snipers were 1 hit kill to chest / head, everywhere else should be 2-3 shots. As it stands your better off using a AR in single shot and a rifle scope / ACOG as they do more damage per bullet it appears

Nope, the lowest damage an AR does is 18.5, that's no where near the bolt actions lowest damage of 59. However considering fire rates, the AR should be the sniper is close to mid range.


Pro tip: aim for head, OHK at every range
