I'll quickly sidetrack this onto the boring/legal Origin QQ:

EA Changes Origin EULA

Basically they've removed the lines which state:

"EA may also use this information combined with personal information for marketing purposes and to improve our products and services. We may also share that data with our third party service providers in a form that does not personally identify you."

and

"EA reserves the right to monitor communications on the Application and disclose any information EA deems necessary,"

End of another Origin QQ debate.

BC2 has mortars, functionally it's just a pair of binoculars snipers use to call in bombs from the sky... a proper mortar would be quite cool.

If I do remember correctly BF 1942 had a mortar, at least I remember spawnkilling with one such weapon.

and the sniper pistols

One of the devs has confirmed that the mortar is actually a piece of equipment that you have to deploy to operate!

Also, Recon class can set a forward respawn point (Radio Beacon) ala BF 2142.

The squad spawn beacon in 2142 was brilliant!

I was hoping it was actually a piece of equipment. its listed on this site that the engineer class gets it.

http://bf3blog.com/battlefield-3-equipment-and-gadgets/

"Battlefield 3 will feature the 60mm M224 mortar for the first time. The mortar will be deployable by the Engineer class. "

Do you need a joystick to fly well on BF games?

I can only comment from a BF2142/BC2 perspective.

BF2142 - Mouse and Keyboard was perfectly fine for flying the Gunship (in fact, i loved it), according to a friend, handled more like a jet than a helicopter.

BC2 - I can't fly for sh*t using the mouse and keyboard, although my friend does so rather well. I'm too used to being able to "strafe" in the BF2142 gunship using A+D, whereas in the Helicopter it's assigned to the Mouse and A+D turn the Heli.

All in all, it's really up to the person and how well you can adapt.

In BF2 i could pilot the chopper ok with a mouse and keyboard i used to pilot a Canadian feller around allot he was a awesome gunner (he shot down many gets with the choppers missile). But jets i needed a joy stick for the dog fights, i found the turns a bit to fast to keep up with when using a mouse.

BC2 my joystick wouldnt work for it and couldn't really fly with mouse, so just gave up and kept my back side on the ground.

But the thing with a joystick it feels more natural and helps me get more engrossed in the game. Kind of like playing driving game with a steering wheel instead of a keyboard.

But with allot of practice a mouse with suffice.

EA has changed the wording, now it is much softer, not the meaning. The data is still shared with third party service providers (Section 4), am guessing for advertising purposes, and Origin still monitors your activity (Section 3), for social features.
To be fair, it has to monitor the activity to communicate to your friends what you are doing and EA says you can disable that communication if you choose to.

As long as my M14 is powerful I'm good. Also as long as the guns aren't as floaty.

I liked the feel of the weapons in the Alpha, for a battlefield game they seemed good.

Pains me to say it, but in CoD4, the weapons felt fantastic, maybe it was just an over-zealous use of bass in the sound of them.

Still, I get my shotties and AN-94, I cannot complain.

In COD4 the weapons had much tighter groupings and in general just more detectable recoil.

In BC2 as far as I can tell, the gun sounds are fantastic. But the floaty feeling left it feeling a bit lacking.

I do wish they had improved on the gun handling. But I can't tell for the alpha because I haven't gotten a chance to spin it yet.

The sound is something awesome with BF3.... If you think Wartapes is good on BC2... just wait for this one Running through the park in Metró and hearing all the bullets whizzing over your head, just stunning.

I think the feel is definately improved over BC2 anyway.
