And again, it´s time to start a new worklog.....

this time we meet an old friend again :D
We´re going to build a new version of our Wall-E Mini ITX System. :D

This time we will build it out of metal, and combine that with a few servos an arduino and a few old rc parts which we recycle from our peacemaker project

We already started in the last days. First we only made a few test´s with the arduino to see if it makes what it should. After that we start the metal work while bending the first parts for the base construction....

After that we already mounted the first part of the rc unit so that we could change all other parts around it so that it finally fits in :thumb:

    But enough of the words....

After closing the case....i continued with the first part of the head....the neck
for the neck, i first cutted out a few plexiglas parts which then were drilled and assembled ...

under the top of the case i already mount a first servo which will controll the movement of our head
    [IMG]

and i also started to build the first parts of the chain drive...

time for the next update :D

after cutting out the first parts for the chain drive we continued with the next rolls so that we get 6 rolls for each side. From this 6 rolls we build 3 double rolls each rolls

then we continued with the first layers of the eyes

and mounted them for a first test
    [IMG]
beside that we also put in the i/o panel for the backside so that we could see where changes were needed...

then we shortened the chain for the drive and mounted it for a first test

after that we continued with the next layer for the eyes....glued them together and mounted them again....

as next step we mounted the 3rd axis of the chain drive
    [IMG]

we also attached the arduino and it´s power source (choiix power fort) under the top panel
    [IMG]

and we prepared the front lid

    thanks a lot!!!

eve is also in our big pile of planned and up to now not realized mods....:D
as soon as we find a few solutions for some minor problems we will start the building process.
Up to now...the biggest problem would be the hovering parts of her body like the head and the arms....:D

time for a "small" update :D:thumb:

one of the next steps...was to assemble the mainbase for a first test...so that we can see if if fits like it should...

Then we choosed a "PSU" for the system....so that we can start searching for a nice place for it...

then we bended a small angle, which will hold another servo...which opens and close the front lid
    [IMG]

as next we reduced the size of the I/O Panel for the backside....

before we started to cut out the first parts of the arms....

we also overworked the electronics for the chain drive so that it will work without problems...

last but not least....we picked an old phone (htc magician) which we will use as addition for the windows desktop and as standalone device for the small front display which wall-e originally has.....(it also can play soundfiles)

time for the next update :thumb:

not for this version of the eyes, but we already plan a second version of them....so that we can integrate the webcams in the second version :thumb:

Like you can imagine from the video....the next steps we made were the arms & hands....
for the arms we first prepared a solid plexiglas rod (25mm diameter) with a hole where we can insert a bit smaller rod...the smaller rod is glued to the bigger one and will be used to connect upper arm and forearm.....

the we cut out the first parts of the hands....

then we first bended the already prepared hands and sanded the forearms....so that we can attach the hands to them....

beside that we also prepared the front for the display and made the needed cuts
    [IMG]

last but not least we mounted the Mainboardtray and the electronics for the driving functions for a first time....

    thx a lot m8!!

it´s time for an update!

the next parts we made were some covers for the servos which lifts our arms....

then we first choosed a fan for the backside of the case...

....so that we could mark his place and cut out the needed blowhole....

after that we cutted a piece of modders mesh to fit behind that blowhole...and we also painted it with the BnL Logo from the movie....

beside that we added a bit of paint to the mainbase and the arms....

time for an update again

first we finished the painting process on the arms / hands.....

then we continued with the eyes....they needed a bit of bondo and sanding before we could start to paint them.....

then we had to drill a few more holes into the the top

For the arduino which should be mounted under the top, we made a small cover....

before we startet to mount the hardware for a first test

    Very cool project

How is the HTC Magician interfaced with the PC? through the Arduino or just via USB?

    thx m8´s!! :thumb:

oh that depends on how you count :D if we count them all together (customer mods/scratch builds and those we build just for us) we´re way over it....if you count only those we did for us....we have reached the half with one of our last projects........

we will use one of the internal usb connectors (Front USB) to connect the magician directly to the mainboard. That way it´s recognized as normal device which can be synced....(thats a must, because else the driver for the display wouldn´t work and a working display becomes more and more important )

But now it´s time for a short update:

After mounting the mainboard, we also mounted a few dummy parts (as place holders for the real hardware) to see if everything will fit inside.....

as next we started the painting process for Top/Backside of the Case
    [IMG]

after that we made the last cuts...so that a DVD Drive can be mounted behind the front..

we also made a small drive cage for the dvd drive
    [IMG]

before we continued the painting process of the rest of the body

you can really see this taking shape in the last couple of posts, then you add the paint and it transforms completely, hope this comes out as good as its looking now.
